Lipscomb brought to The Ledger office this week a curiosity in the shape of an insect that is de stroying the beautiful shade trees on Frederick street. It is a small white, insect with a brown spot on tbe back, and the damage they are doing to the foliage is said to be considerable. The West End High School, colored, of GafTney, closed last Thursday the 2nd inst. The enrollment during the session of nine months was 120. The examination of pupils showed that hard and faithful work hud b-*endone during the term hy the principal, Rev. K C. Campbell and his wife. The Vitale Concert Co., was the at traction at the opera house last Sat- utday night. 1 he audience was slim but appreciative. The performance was good. Prof. Vitale is an artist in the true sense of the word. His work whs of the highest order and evinced that he was a master of the violin. Wheat is very good through our section. Spring oats are not good on acount of dry weather. The health of our community is very good with the excepton of chills.
