Cali and see my goods and get my prices while there is peace. iitisfaction Curanteed. The Second Baptist church is in the north-eastern portion of the city on Cherokee street. It is one of the handsomest houses of worship in the city, is capacious and of modern architectural design. The seats are of the latest and most comfortable style and the lighting and ventilation are perfect. For this fine house-of worship, Gaffney is indebted to the Christian workers employed at the Gaffney cot ton mill. These good people have been assiduous in their efforts to se cure this church and all Gaffney is proud that success lias crowned their effort, ai.d that we have another tem ple of worship among us, an evi dence of piety and an ornament to the city. This fine church was dedicated last Sunday. The pastor and officers of the First Baptist church attended in a body, and the pastors and officers of other near-by churches were in vited and many attended. Services began by singing Doxology after which the invocation was offer ed by the pastor, Rev. J. M. Bridges, and “All bail the power of Jesus’ name” was sung by the congrega tion. Rev. B. P. Robertson, pastor of the First Baptist church, then deliv ered an historical sketch of the new church from its incipiency, in cluding preliminary work, organiza tion of church, building of house and its workings up to this day of dedication This sketch was care- fully arranged, and included histori cal facts, time will be of benefit and interest to this county as long as his tory is recorded. Mr. Robertson’s remarks were delivered in his usual quiet, but forcible style, and was one of the interesting features of the occasion. A collection was then taken up for State Missions and the hymn “My hope is built on nothing less” was beautifully rendend by the S. A. DANIELS, The Jeweler. ’X. B.—I will receive this week a beautiful collection of diamond rings. CON^'CMPTION choir, assisted largely by the congre- gaf ion. Dr. T. M. Bailey, secretary and treasurer of state missions, was pres ent to preach the dedicatory sermon, and selected for hia subject, “A New Testament church.” Dr. Bailey treated his subject in all its phases and presented it to his large congre gation in a manner both forcible and pleasing, and kept the large assem blage of people, which filled the house to overflowing, in wrapped at tention during Us delivery. Dr. Bailey was up to the high expecta tions of his admiring hearers. The dedication prayer was then offered by Rev.J. M. Bridges with a fer vor which we trust made it acceptable on high. After the singing of another appropriate hymn and the benedic tion by Prof. S. A. Chambers, the large congregation repaired to their respective homes comforted by the sacred services of the day. vaudeville the opera and night Rhodes’ Merrymakers Rhodes’ Merrymakers, presenting legitimate drama and specialties will occupy house tonight, tomorrow Saturday night. This company comes well recommended and must have some merit or they could not afford to stay in a town the size of Gaffney for three nights. The prices will be 25c and 35c. They will present, “The ifeart of Cuba,” “The Great Diamond Mystery.” and “The Gold Fields” during their engagement. Of the company the .Spartanburg Herald of Tuesday says: The Rhodes’ Merrymakers arrived in the citv Sunday. Last evening they pre sented at the opera house “The Heart of Cuba,” a charming drama, to a large and packed audience. The play was well presented and equally us well received. The audience at intervals attested their appreciation in a most hearty and enthusiastic manner. Every actor did well and the specialty features were all new and up-to-date. The drama, not only presented the Cuban cause in a most patriotic a id catchy manner, but the actors also kept the narrative of this island’s struggle for independence up to the present day. . -*•»- ■ —- Board of Health. At an election held Monday, the following gentlemen were elected members of the city Board of Health : I’hysieian, Dr. B. D. Bates; mem bers of board. S. L. Cutting, R. S. Lipscomb, II. L. Spears and R. O. Sams. Protracted Meeting. A series of revival services were begun at the Second Baptist church lust Monday. For several nights a prayer meeting service was held pre paratory to the regular meeting. On Monday Rev. L. R. Pruett, of Charlotte, arrived and has been hold ing services every afternoon and evening since. Mr. Pruett is a forceful and entertaining preacher, and has had much experience in his particular line. The services will continue indefinitely. Pastor J. M. Bridges extends a cordial invitation to the people of the city and sur rounding county to attend these ser vices.
