The great question of a courthouse site has boon settled at lust, and set tled, we think, in the most satisfac tory manner possible. Thk Ledger has been aware of the fact that at the last several meetings of the' county commissioners the question of a site for the court house has been about the only business discussed outside of routine county matters. At the meeting before the last one a proposition was made by the city council to deed to the county the city hall and a lot on which to build the jail in consideration that the ; county should release the city and the signers of the bond to build a court house and jail from further ob ligation. The question was freely debuted and the commissioners iinally concluded that the best thing to do was to accept the proposition of the town council. We have no hesitancy in saying that the commissioners did a wise tiling, and for a number of reasons. In the tirst place they will no longer be undecided in the matter. They now have a court house that is ample for all present needs and one which will answer all future demands for years to come. They will not be put the necessity of choosing a site be tween sevefal land companies and individuals. They forever do away with the possibility of any future city council endeavoring to escape the responsibility of a. court house and jail, and it makes no difference now who is elected as a council they cannot put the county to any un necessary worry and trouble. Then again, they have a piece of property that is amply worth the amount of the bond. It belongs to the county now. They do not have to wait eleven years before they van have a home of their own. At any time they choose to do so, if it was ne^t month, they could dispose of the property and buy elsewhere. At the. end of eight or ten years the property will be worth more than the (t Cou«h Syrup. Tmmu dead. Cm M In Umo. Sold by drugglm. HI amount of the bond. In fact one gentleman has already offered to give them $15,000 for it at the end of twelve years. •Our city council deserve all praise for making the proposition and-our county commissioners showed good judgement in accepting it. The jail will be located on a well drained lot facing on Church street just behind the Baptist church. The transaction gives almost uni versal satisfaction. A gentleman re marked to The Legeu yesterday that • it was an elegant business trans action for all parties concerned,” and he was not a county or city officer either. Dr. Theodore Munro Dead.
