It Will Begin Sunday in the First Methodist Church. Rev. J. E. Schoolfield, of Dunville, V»., will begin a meeting in the First Methodist Church next Sabbath. Pastor Croat has done well in secur ing the services of so able a work er in the cause as Mr. Schoolfield. It has been our privilege and pleas ure to listen to the expounding of the Word by this noble man and we pre dict for Gaffney one of the richest revivals in her history. Speaking of his work in RtFUna Vista., the Herald says: For nearly two weeks Mr. J. E. Schoolfield, the Evangelist, lias been in our midst , holding t wo meetings each day. His sermons have been remarkable for their power and ef fectiveness. Hundreds have been led to forsake their ways and seek a better life through Christ. A religious atmosphere seems to evade the whole community and many souls are being born of God. The special service for men last Sun day evening was something wonder ful, and was the most remarkable visitation of the “Holy Spirit” that was ever seen In this town. We are not informed ns to the exact number who have professed conversion, but it is estimated that let ween four and five hundred have owned Christ as their Savior. Tlie choir consisting of one hundred person, with pianoist, organist and cornetist, under the leadership of Prof. Van Pelt are giv- inir us some line music which is o heartily enjoyed by the large audien- I ces which daily attend. This is a propitious time in the History of Buena Vista and every Christian should feci the personal responsibili ty that rc*ts upon them, and do all in their power to convert the whole town to God. The good that has been done in our community by the grand work of Mr. ischoolfield is simply beyond estima tion. Old animosities have been re moved. old differences healed and every one brought into a more closer and harmonious fellowship. The good that has been done for our city by these meetings within the past two weeks, will live and’* be felt the futu-e. A Bright Jewel Gone. Miss Ora Kendrick died at the home of her parents on Limestone street last Friday at 1 o’clock of typhoid pneumonia. Miss Kendrick had been sick about four wieeks. Deceased was twenty-five years of age. She was a member of Pacolet Baptist church and was a most estimable young woman. Mr. and Mrs. Ken drick and family moved to Gaffney a year ago last January from Sunny Side, and Miss Ora at once won her way into the hearts of Gaffney peo ple by her amiable and gentle de meanor. She died as she had lived— in full fellowship with the Master. In her death Gaffney looses a bright ! jewel. The burial services were con ducted at the grave by Rev. B. P. Robertson in the presence of a large number of friends and relatives. The interment took place at Limestone cemetery Saturday at noon. Tlie sympathy of the community is ; extended to the bereaved family in their hourof grief. Dr. W. W. Tufts, of Boston, very ap propriately says: “As an orator he has probably been dropping crudities as he has gone on, but I think lie must have sprung full-grown out of the head of divinity. Hein a genious. He has that rare gift of impulsiveness with out rant. It is the expression of a genuine life within the man, which, when analyzed reveals the moral ele ments of sincerity, earnestness, love and the intellectual elements of judg ment, reason and tlie imagination. Emotional thinking is the trait. He is all alive, soul and body, and he communicates his life to his iiearers. They hear him gladly. .The gladden ed hearer says to the impulsive speaker, “Goon.” Dr. Barron’s Meeting Closed. Hr. Barron closed his meeting at Hie First Baptist Church last Satur day morning. The closing scene was very impressive. With the love of God beaming in his countenance Dr. Barron preached a most beautiful sermon, after which he indulged in a general hand-shaking with the con gregation and then offered a fervant prayer petitioning God to allow his richest blessings to rest upon all. The meeting has been fraught with great ben<-tits. Dr. Barron will long be remembered in Gaffney.
