In answer to the call published in last issue of The Ledger, a large and representative meeting of citizens was called to attend la it Tuesday night, at tne Council Chamber. Dr. Hamrick stated the object of the meeting to bo the formation of a club or association to advertise Gallney, to secure organized work in the up building of the commercial interest of Cherokee County. Mayor Wood was made temporary chairman. The needs and benefits of such an organization was fully dis cussed in short talks by a number of citizens. A committee composed of Messrs. Wheat, Hambrick, Baker, A. N. Wood, and J. A. Carroll, was appoint ed to draft a constitution and by-laws. A committee composed of Col. Wardlaw* Prof. McArthur, Messrs. Do Camp. R. M. Williams and R. A. Jones, was appointed to receive mem bers. A meeting for the purpose of per manent organization will he held on next Tuesday evening, at S o’clock, at Council Chamber. Every citizen of Gaffney who has the interest of the town at heart, come out and put his shoulder to the wheel. We have to-day the best town of its size in the State. By organized efforts on the part of our citizen**, that fact can be brought to the attention of the out side wolrd. Straners are daily coming within our gates, with a view of locating here. Some provi sion should be made whereby they can be shown the advantages of our city, and what inducements we can offer to them as citizens. Lay aside political and personal differences and let’s come out and work together with the sole purpose of making Gaff ney a city of ten thousand people in the next few years. Robcrtson-Kendrick. The city, especially the young por tion of it, was somewhat agitated Tuesday afternoon over the announce ment that Mr. Z. A. Robertson and Miss Ola Kendrick had gotten mar ried. It was rather sudden and quite surprising. It was known that the young people were quite friendly and they were often seen in each other’s company but it was not believed their intentions were so serious. However Tuesday afternoon Mr. Rob ertson sought the services of Clerk of Court J. Eb. Jefferies and repaired to the residence of the bride’s parents on Main street where theceremony was preformed in excellent style by tne Clerk in the presence of Dr. S. II. Crawley and the family of the bride. The happy young couple took the northbound vestibule for a bridal tour. Miss Kendrick is one of the most popular young ladies in the city. She is accomplished in many res pects and has added much to the social enjoyment of Gaffney. Mr. Robertson is a pushing and energetic young man and we can but join the friends of the happy young couple and congratulate them, wish ing they may encounter no thorns along the rosy path of matrimony. County Commissioners Meet. Supervisor N. Lipscomb called the newly appointed Board of County Commissioners together last Satur day. Each township was represented. The board approved the bonds of all the county officers that have been prepared and submitted to them. The board proceeded to elect a clerk for the board and Col. Thos. B. Butler was unanimously elected lo that po sition. The board with a desire to curtaM expenses concluded not to elect a county attorney and physician but authorized the Supervisor to supply^ counsel and physician when the ne-* cessity requires. EAR AND Garden Strawberries. For many years John Geddes has been the champion gardner of Gaff ney but John has lost his laurels. Sunday R. S. Lipscomb plucked ripe strawberries from his garden and now John is dismayed because of that fact. However John would not stay downed for any length of time, so Tuesday he displayed at this office some early beans which had formed in his garden and Wednesday brought us a nice mess of jucious berries. Mrs. M. J. Byars sent us several nice strawberries which she gathered from her garden Monday. A Protracted Meeting. The Rev. John M. DesChamps is conducting a revival at the Second Methodist church in this city. Much interest is being manifested. The meeting has been in progress for more than a week and will continue until the end of this week at. least. Mr. DesChamps is one of the bright est young clergymen in this section, and is accomplishing great good in his earnest endeavors in the Master’s cause. Go and See. Novel and pleasant exercises will take place at the First Baptist church Suuday night S :80 o’clock. A large number of the infant class will grad ate and receive diplomas. A valedictory from one of tho pu pils, a welcome from the superin tendent, primary drill, words from officers and sweet songs by the child ren will give profit and pleasure to the occasion.
