As a result of the meeting a large number have joined the Baptist church while the other churches have corps of competent leach- ; also received several new members. Ik was announced that Mr. Elsom would conduct the meet ing at Provi dence, but that he would be com pelled to go to Danville to preach Sunday, so he left Saturday morning for Danville and returned to Gaffney Monday morning. In the meantime Kev. B. 1*. Robertson, assisted by Ri v. C. E. Robertson and'otbers had begun the meeting at Providence. A large crowd was at the depot to see him off and bid him God speed, and many were the regrets expressed on account of his being called away. Mr. Elsom may never come to Gaffney again but Thk Lkockk can say he has helped this town, lie has elevated the Christian standard and the town is better for his having been in it. A nice set of officials, truly, that have to be compelled to do their sworn duty. Why do they not go to all tho poll ing precincts in the county as the law requires like the officiulsof Fnion and other counties have done? Simply because these people have got no one to howl for them. Regimental Encampment. The Third Regiment Encampment takes place at Laurens this week, be ginning on the 1th and lasting to the 8th. Col.
