THE LEDGER: GAPFNET, S. C., JULY 9, 1896. r» *r Blood Poison. Contagious B'ood Poison has been ap- nropriattly called the curse of mankind. It is the one disease that physicians can not cure; their mercurial aud potash remedies only bottle up the poison in the system, to surely break forth in a more virulent form, resulting in a total wreck of the system. Mr. Frank B. Martin, a prominent Jeweler at 926 Pensylvania Ave., Wash ington,D.C.,says: I was for a long time under treat ment of two of the best physi cians of this city, for a severe case of blood poison, but my condition grew worse all the while, not withstanding the J fact that they W ~1 charged me three I# ' hundred dollars, ['/y My mouth was filh it‘h eating sores; my tongue was almost eaten away, so that for three month c I was unable to taste any solid food. y hair was coming out rapidly, aud I . as in a horrible fix. I had tried various treatments, and was nearly dis- coura d, when a friend recommended S.S.S. After T had taken four bottles, I began to get better, and when I had finished eighteen bottles, I was cured sound and well, my skin was without a blemish, and I have had no return of the disease. S.S.S.saved me from a life •f misery.” S.S.S. {guaranteed purely vegetable') will cure any case of blood poison. CAST AGAINST THE ISSUE OF EIGHTEEN THOUSAND PERSONAL PARAGRAPHS Dollars Worth of Bonds For Our Water Works—Three Commissioners Elected and the Issue of Bonds Decided. Gaffe »y will not down but to the front ehc is steadily marching. No booming, but proceeding in a busi ness like manner as exigences de mand. *On last Tuesday an election was held on the question of issueing $18,000.00 coupon bonds by the city for the purpose of constructing a system of water works in the city, and, just like Gaffney when anything is proposed for their general welfare, her people grasp the situation and put tho measure through, as they did on last Tuesday when they voted unanimously in favor of water works bonds, not one vote being cast against the measure, everybody being for the bonds and pure watrr.V Now they expect our city authori ties to proceed in their usual busi ness like manner and furnish them with a first class system of water works as speedily as possible. On the same day an election was held for three commissioners of public works for the city, and Messrs. Moses Wood, N. Lipscomb and R. S. Lip scomb were elected. They are truly representative men fully up to date and are thorough in business matters, which eminently qualifies them for the duties of the positions to which their fellow citizens have placed them. “TONY, THE CONVICT.” ' rytliiiiK kept In tit-Nt' lass order. Monumental Works. He was Well Received by a Large Au dience. Friday evening a large and select audience greeted “Tony, the Con vict,” at the Seminary. Tho audi ence became interested at the begin ning and the interest in the play was never allowed to lax. The smooth stage work and short waits between acts added much to tho attractive ness of the play. Mr. Moorman’s Tony was well done. His humor was good and his make up fine. The climax in the first, second, third and fourth acts between Tony and Barclay elicited unstinted applause, while the careful work of the entire troop was highly appre ciated. Mr. Kennedy’s Judge Van Cruger was all that could have been asked for, while Messrs Baker, Humphries, Littlejohn, Hopper and DeCamp made all they could out of the res pective characters of Wnlburton, Wayside, Burrows, Jackson and Barclay. Miss Wilkie’s Lena was very inno cent and with just a little more ex pression would have been perfect. Miss Sarratt’s Mrs. Van Crugar showed that she was suited to the part, while Miss Kendrick’s adapta tion of Miss Sedley was splendid. Mrs. Sarratt’s Sally showed that she had bestowed much thrught and study on the part. She done it real well. All in all the play was well cast and it was the universal verdict that it was one of tho best pieces of ama teur work done in Gaffney. One of the features of the evening was Miss Carroll’s singing. She was heartily encored and compelled to render the second selection. Her voice was splendid and she sang in her sweetest manner. Index to New Advertisements.
