They took a good-natured son of Is rael about a mile from town and left him to hold the suck while they went to drive the snipe. Manager W. C. Hamrick, of the Gaffney Manufacturing Company’s store, lias been confined to his room several days the past week on account of sickness. We are glad to he able to announce that he is now able to be out. There is a freak in vegetation at Grindull. On this side of the river everything is green and budding while on the other Hide, just ov«r the river, everything in the vegetable line is dead and dry. Who can ex plain it? T. Davenport accompanied Mrs. Davenport to the train Monday night. He remained on board until the train had attained some speed and in attempting to jump off he fell and hurt his leg. The injury was painful but not serious. Why don’t you make an effort to get that free tuition? It can he easily secured. There is not a bright hoy or girl in this sec tion who could not go to work and in two days surpass the best effort sent in so far. Let us hear from you. The people in the section of Grin- dall have petitioned the postoffice department to re-open the post of fice at that place. J. W. Nance will be the new post master. Lkdgkk subscribers in that neighborhood will get their papers on Thursday here after. The genial old citizen, John W. Ross, fell the other day while mov ing around his plantation and broke several of his ribs. Mr. Rcss is get ting along qui'e well now, and his many friends in Gaffney will watch witJi interest for any news of his re covery. J. 8. Hopper, of whom there is no more genial nature in the county, culled on us lust week and displayed what he terms his new variety of corn. It has five distinct ears in one shuck. Mr. Hopper says he hopes to improve the seed next year so the stock will bear ears from the ground up. J. L. Strain, our efficient ’corres pondent from Etta Jane is in Co lumbia this week looking after the interests of the new county. We miss his newsy letter but we feel that next week he will come forth with renewed energy and give us some thing that will be both pleasant and profitable. - • PERSONAL PARAGRAPHS. Religious Notes. Bishop Capers will make hisvisita- ; tion on Thanksviving Day, Nov. 28. Bishop Caper is one of the finest pul pit orators in the State, and one of our purest and best men. Every body should embrace this opportuni ty of hearing this distinguished and; pure man of God. Sunday week there will be special religious services in the Limestone Baptist chnreh, conducted by Rev. B. P. Robertson, assisted by the j other pastors of the city. This ex- | ercise will be in lieu of the regular 1 commencement exercises. The pub lic is invited. There will he no morning service at the Baptist church ou that day. Rev. G. M. 1 loyd will preach on next Sunday afternoon at the factory school house at 4 o’clock. This will close his labors there for the present year. He will close his year’s work at Gethsemane church next Sunday at 11 o’clock a. m., and at Asbury on Sunday week at 11 a. m. Rev. B. P. Robertson will preach next Sabbath on the Lord’s Supper in the forenoon. The evening ser vice will he devoted to a song ser vice. The other pasiors and the public in general are invited to par ticipate in this service. Rev. Ohas. 1J. Miss Fannie Littlejohn accompa nied Mrs. R. N. Littlejohn on her re turn home to the Queen City Monday. Miss Lou Flemming, of Rome, Ga., is the guest of Miss Minnie Carroll. Miss Flemming is one of Georgia’s fairest representatives and has al ready captured the hearts of Gaffney’s young people of both sex. Miss Ida Wood, one of Pacolet’s fair daughter’s, is the guest of Miss Annie Wood. H. C. Mabry, of Grindall, was in the city Saturday. M. L. Gaffney has moved to Chero kee. Alderman F. G. Stacy and John Holland went up to Lowell last Sat urday evening to spend Sunday. At least that’s the station they got off at. Tom Camp went to Spartanburg Monday evening to take in “AjBreezy Time.” F. M. Mikell, of the Lancashire Insurance Company was in the city Monday and Tuesday. Mr. Mikell is the special agent for the company’s Southern department with headquar ters at Atlanta. J. B. Hodge, of Pacolet, was in the city Tuesday on business. Rev. C. E.
