[Correspondence of Tui-; l. muKit. j Bi.m ksuriu;, S. C . Aug., 1-—The usual quietude of this law abiding community was g.vm !y shocked last Saturday night iy the killing of Rufus Hardin, an e mployee of the Southern Railway Company, by Bogan Gibson. It in said that the wife of Gibson and Hardin were too intimate, but Hardin, on his death bed, it is said, claimed that he was innocent. As near as could be as certained the follow[ng is a correct de tail of the events which led up to the tragedy: Harden says he had been sick for several days and had sent a negro to the still house, several miles from town for some whiskey and that he (Hardin) had gone to the electric lighthouse about 9:30 Saturday night to meet the negro to get the whiskey, and that when he went into the lighthouse to get the whis key Mrs. Gibson came in after him. In a short while Gibson came to the lighthouse and seeing his wile there became jealous and opened tire upon Hardin, shooting him in Hie abdo men. Hardin tried to escape but Gibson pursued him and overtaking him he (Gibson) began to cut Hardin in the back with a pocket knife. Hardin fell from the ellects of the wound and remained in the place he had fallen nearly two hours before he was discovered. He was taken to his home in a buggy by Mr. Cline. Dr. Darwin was sent for. Hardin was asked if he ban been with Gib son’s wife and he replied, “not to night.” Gibson returned to bis home and it is said be boasted of bis deed, say ing be bad been looking for him for some time and that he would shoot twenty more for the same offense. (’., Aug. 12.—'Two of our girls, to use a school girl phrase, got “awfully scared” the other night. They were in the par lor playing the organ and singing when all at once they heard some one knocking on the house near the window. They stopped to enquire who or what it was making the noise. About this time some one on the out side grabbed the window shutters and began shaking them furiously. The girls didn’t stop to inquire any father into the matter, but rushed into the other room crying, “Papa, papa, get the gun.” The papa jumped up to run out and see what it v as. when lo and behold the sweet, innocent laugh of a girl was heard. This is the way it was. One of the girls had feigned that she was tired and sleepy so she retired to her room and left the other two girls in the parlor. After she got to her room she planned the above little joke by which she scared her companions. She said that she knew that there wasn’t a gun in the house. It was a good joke, wasn't it? We believe girls can play off better jokes than the boys, in fact they can do most anything better than boys. They can cook better, milk better, churn better, sew better, housekeeping in general better. So we art* not so I sorry after all that we are a girl, j And if girls can surpass boys so far in so many things (now don’t think j that I am a woman’s rights advo cator) dosn’t it look like the woman 1 might and could, if they were allowed, j surpass the men in many things; in 1 voting, in holding office, in preueh- ; ing, in practicing law and medicine, j But I guess I had better stop here or else I will have Flaw Picker, Flaw Corrector and Slim Sum all to light, for each one of them is married and has perhaps ere this time enjoyed several “curtain lectures.” They know how loud and fast we womem cun talk, yet they are not willing for us to have our rigts.
