Having no particularly pressing
work at hand and being promised a
pleasant ride, Tin: I.kix;i:u hastened
to accept the invitation of Dr. Smith.
The (Jod of Sunshine was never more
resplendent. He shown forth in all
his glory, giving warmth to the earth
and caressing the growing vegetation
on every side. The (iod of Vegeta
tion and the Dod of Nature seemed
to vie with each other in their strug
gle to eclipse the (iod of Sunshine.
But then we remembered that the
one great (Jod was (Iod of all. A
more perfect day could not have
been wished for. The ride had not
progresssed very far into the country
before we met our enterprising county
supervisor, Mr. Lemmon, and his able
assistant, Township Commissioner
R. M. .lolly. They were out inspect
ing the roads. After exchange of
pleasantries we drove on. Not a
great way on we eame to an inviting i
well which seemed to say “Come and ;
taste of my thirst-quenching quail- j
ties,” and we did so, while two
horny-handed tillers of the soil enter
tained us with their merry clatter.
Further on we passed a cheerful cob- I
bier and his merry crew on their way '

make captives of the finny tribe, and :
still further on we were passed by |
two men, evidently made merciless j
by a too intimate acquaintanceship
with John Barley Corn, for they were
unmercifully driving their horse. ;
Finally we reached the hank of the j
beautiful winding broad, only to find j

walk of about a mile and a half after

but the pict uresqueness of the
scenery had the effect of making the
distance seem short. We soon reached
the store of the Cherokee Falls Man
ufacturing Company. In the private

week your correspondent traveled
around a good deal and heard a num
ber of compliments paid Till. Lkihiuk
by men, and women too, who are
compeh nt judgi s of a good paper.
I find that ii is becoming a favorite
with the people on aerounf of ils not
mixing up with politics, which, they
say, is fast dying out. If I am to
judge from what I sec and hear the
paper has a flattering prospect ahead
and I hope ils realization to the- full
est extent is near at hand.
The North Pacolet Sunday School
convention will meet at Klbethel
next Sabbath, 23d, at 10 a.m. and
all persons friendly to the cause are
invited to attend. The ladies espec
ially are invited to come with filled
baskets. We expect to make it one
of the most enthusiastic meetings of
the convention held during the six
years of its existence. We hope
every school in the bounds of the
convention will he represented.
