A com spondent of the News and Courier writing from Boston gives a charming account of Christmas at the New England Conservatory of Music. What conserns us most is what he says of our talented townswoman, Miss Minnie Carroll. Let the writer speak for himself: “This .Saturday afternooon at the pupils recital in Sleeper Hal! the event of the programme was the sing ing of Miss Minnie Carroll, of Gaffney, South Carolina. She has a remarkably sweet soprano and sings with fine dramatic expression, is one of Signor Rotoli’s pupils. The selec tions for this afternoon were: “Rob ert tu die adore” and the lovely “Vieni die poi sereiio,” from Gluck’s Seiniramide. Signor piayed the ac companiments mugnificiently and the singer had three or four enthusi- astie recalls. The Southern stu dents are always delighted over the success of one of their number, and we are pretty well represented in this big eosmopolitian college.” It is pleasant to bo appreciated by others. But Miss Minnie pleases without ostentation. Her cultured voice is an open sesame to many hearts. Miss Minnie is valued at home more than she is in Boston or anywhere else. PUSHING GAFFNEY. We are go ing to take steps looking to an ex hibit whether or not the other towns co-operate with us, but it will be found less expensive and of more value to make such exhibit if other towns would co-operate. I write to ask your attention to this matter, and to ask that you bring it to tho attention of the Business Associa tion of your town if you have one, and if you have not one that you will bring it to the attention of promi nent business men of your city in order that we may know whether or not we can count upon the co-opera tion of your city, and if so what you think your city would give for the purpose. We desire if possible to have the Piedmont region make a creditable exhibit and the authorities at the exposition have agreed to give us the necessary space provided we give them prompt information as to the amount of space we will require. shall appreciate it if you will let me hear from you as soon as possi ble.
