which appears in this issue is tho first.
It is intended by its originator, to be a
stimulus to a more successful prosecu
tion of study, and, while it docs not
take the plnce of discipline, it is thought
that U will prove, a vsluable auxiliary
thereto. The co-operation of teachers
throughout tho county is anticipated
and respectfully rolicitcd. An explana
tion of tbo system, as conducted in the
Fairview Graded School, follows:
A head mark is awarded to that
member of a class who numbers “first.”
The person receiving the head mark
retires to the foot of tho class at next re
citation.-.
Any student who receive* head marks
out of two-fifths of the recitation in a
w’eck is entitled to an Honor Roll. Pro*
vided the.whole number of head marks
s' *
which receive the honor mark, U re
ceived between Monday and Friday, tho
name of the student is placed upon the
Honor Roll for that week.
Illustration—A. and B. arc in the
same class, and recite 23 times per
week, . (2-5 of 25—10; the. value, in
head marks, of an Honor Mark). A.
receives ten head marks between Mon
day and Fridsy, and receives thc-elbr
an Honor Mark, and has hi* name en
rolled on the Honor Roll. B. receives
seven head marks in the week and three
on tho following Monday. For the ten
he receives an Honor Mark but is not
entitled to a place on the Honor Roll.
The system we think, is as rigid as i f
car. be, to be successful.

claims were piled up gainst the
county during years when the people
were taxed beyond endurance, the
