The Way to Tell Whether a Ma
chine WiH Pay or Not.
Consider the first cost, the probable cost
of repair; then bow long it will last. Then
begin to run up the profit, you expect to re
ceive by it* use, and you will see whethsr it
profits
PROVED
PERFECT DUSTER. The COM of one for a
40 saw gin is $46. This include, the at
taching of it to the gin, and proving whether
it will do or not. We wiU put down $1 per
year fbr repairs. ‘We will now run up iriUit
little we may expeet io receive by it. mu.
The C*aden.er take. Ike place of your wuie-
tel lift! room., which range in coet from $10
to $20, saying nothing about tbe much
needed space they take up. Now put down
the next thing they are especially good for,
and that is to burn out wla.n you areleast
expecting it N ow > w.hat does it cost mef
$600 or $1,060, beside*, J had a good deal
of cotton and a great many seed burned,
also five or ten beie. belonging to my eus,
ttfmen. They too have to aharo th. risk
and loss of thi. miserable lint-room arrange
ment, and are entitled to Oh insurance.
Now, put down your immense loss in dusty
cotton. Yen (bay conclude that duty cotton
sells lower, but weighs higher. In this you
are badly mistaken. • The matter in tbe
earth or »gnd which give, storm cotton a
black, dingy cast is as light as a feather.
You can prove it. Ge to a black, dusty
place in the road in a dry time, and kick the
sand about, and yon will see it rise and float
off in tbe air. ft is lighter than hif. Ton
will not get liojt as quick by its weights,
you will get poor by its looks. Your Vftp
cotton will get badly soiled in the boU in S
dry, windy time in this way.- To prove
what we sometimes loee by dusty cotton, 1
will produce tbe certiflOate of H. Ked, Esq.,
who had a bale dusted by tha Condenser,
and one ginned in a lint-room, in order to
test tho difference:
Wixdsob, 8. C., Sept. 8, 1874.
J. L. Tools—Dear Sir: I did as I told you
about the cotton. I hauled Iho two bales to
Alkon yesterday. The' cotton was all
gathered as near as I could get It. Jates,
owner of lint-room gin, must have had an
an awfully nasty lint roem from ginning
dusty cotton. I believe it looked worse af
ter than before 'it was ginned. Yon beat
him badly. I got 12} cent# for bj» bale and
14 oenU for yours. I lost just enough to
pay for the ginning of one bale, $2.76. I be
lieve in your duster.

Now, let us see what oan be saved by U in
oneyeqr, supposing every gin to use one. It
Is estimated from reliable sources that there
is an pvcmge of 126 gin. burned acciden
tally throughout tho South annually. Sup
pose them, including their contents, to av-T
erago in value $1,000. Here is $125,000
in one year from thi* quarter*, Now, it with
not be considered exaggeration in cotton
manufacturing circles to estimate that one-
fourth of the whole crop irdamaged by dust,
and we will average this loss at one -quarter
of a cent per pound. We generally raise
from four to five million bales per year.
Suppose the dmty bales to average 400 Ibe,
and tho whole crop four and a half millions.
Here is one million one hundred and-twenty-
five thousand dollar* more ftnved that would
have gone into the handsqflhe manufactu
rer, under the plea of dn.ty hr storm cotton.
They have machinery to clear it of dust,
therefore, they make more money
on clean cotton. They get it In many
from $5 to $10 less per bale, a hen in
ty U is as good as any eottoh gathered. 'C : .
I am now putting up twor style* ef these
machines to suit purchasers, ranging in
price from *30 to $46 np, guaranteed ttf
work well in every particular with but little
attention.
Study the means of saving,
And you will soon have the means of making.
