An attentive friend at Grahams
gives us an extended account of the
meeting at that place on last Satur
day, which we are forced to abridge
by the pressure of advertisements.
He informs us that the attendance
was large, although the notice was
short. Capital and characteristic ad
dresses were made by Col. Sojourner,
Henry Hartzog, E»q., Capt. W. Gil
more Simms, Hon. Robert Aldrich and
Maj. G. B. Lartigue. Of Major Lar
tigue’s speech he writes: “ It was
conservative In tone, gave satisfaction
to the hundreds of whites and colored
red shirts, made many converts, was
tne best speech of the campaign, and
the finest effort of bis life.” The vis
iting gentlemen were handsomely en
tertained by Major Hayes ahd Capt.
Sigmund Liebman. The thoughtful
ladies furnished a splendid hot lunch
for the hungry at & nominal price, the
proceeds, which were handsome, will
he applied to the purchase of a belt
for the Baptist church.

Are Fat People Healthy?—Why
are fat people always complaining ?
asks some one who entertains the
popular though erroneous notiou that
health is synonymous with fat. Fat
people complain because they are dis
eased. Obesity is an abnormal condi
tion of the system, iu which the sac
charine and oleaginous elements of
the food are assimilated to the partial
exclusion of the muscle-forming and
brain-producing elements. In proof
of this, it is only necessary to ussert
the well knowu f*ct that excessively
fat people are never strong, and sel
dom distinguished for mental powers
or activity. Besides, tney are the easy
prey of acute and epidemic diseases,
and they are the frequent victims of
gout, heart disease and apoplexy. Al
lan’s Anti Fat is the onlv known reme
dy for tliis disease. It contains uo
add, is absolutely harm less, anu is
warranted to remedy tbe most eon-
tinned case of obesity or coipulency.
