Last year there were 15.3 homicides per 100,000 population here, as com pared with 8.27 for New York in 1931, and 14.14 for Chicago, he said. “Crimes against property are in creasing and more young men are be coming criminals,” Dr. Williams pointed out. “In 1927, 28 per cent, of all crime wa s committed by men be tween 25 and 34, and 15 per cent, by men between 21 and 24, while in 1933 only 24 per cent, of those convicted were from 25 to 34, and 20 per cent, from 21 to 24 years old. “The increase in crime is more rapid with the whites than with the negroes. In l927sr 55 per cent, of the crimes, hot including prohibition vio lations were by negroes, but in 1933 they were responsible for only 47 per cent.” / Williston, April 30, 1934.
