•AINTY FROCKS FOR CHILDREN
MUCH IN FASHION LIMELIGHT
WOMAN OF TIMMONSVILLE
SCORES HIGH ON PRODUCTS
Children's wear—party dresses, lit
tle frocks for summer outings, and
the various occsstons demanding
dainty apparel—Is a topic that de
mands a great amount of attention
these days, since our little daughters
now copy their elders to a very large
degree. Their dresses must he and
are as dainty as their mothers and
sisters wear, and they should be. If
they are to bf In the mode.
Little girls' dresses show no Inclina
tion to grow longer nor Is there any
appreciable change In locating the
waistline. This Is because most little
girl dresses now, ss In tbe past sea
son. are made to bang perfectly
straight from the shoulder, with yokes
of Taiious kinds. Including lace, and
other favorite materials—Just like old
er sister's.
The little frock st the left, charm
ing In Its simplicity, brings to Imme-
dlste attention tbe fact that It Is of
nsrrow plaited materlaL The Impor
tance of plaiting this season Is manl
iest in this frock to a very mnrL«»d
degree. This little dress Is plaited all
around and attached to a yoke of lace.
I*ace also forms a short capped sleeve,
edged with narrow plaiting of the
dress material. The plaits sre con
fined at the hips by a narrow ribbon
tied with the daintiest of bows at the
side front The frock has a round
neck with just a tiny bow on the left
shoulder.
Note sIso the printed silks for chil
dren. Shown In this delightful little
sleeveless frock Is one of the newest
designs for the little tots. A very un
usual feature Is tbe plaited ruffle ex
tending In a straight line from shoul
der to shoulder, where It Is esught
with bows of ribbon. Extending down
the front Is a plaited panel, also of
plain, contrasting msterlal. At tbs
waistline the plaiting Is held In place
by a ribbon band with a bow at the
left side.
Figured esnton crepe, wool chatlls,
and various other materials are suit
able for the little frock above de
scribed.

Dodo Easy Victim of
Greed and Ignorance
The dodo, often spoken of as a pre
historic bird. Is said to have been In
existence during the time of Charles
L Bat It has since been extinct s
matter of 200 years, which gives force
to the tag. “as extinct as the dodo.*
. The bird was known only In Mauri
tius, and soon after the Dutch coloni
sation In 1508 Its proverbial fate fell
upon It It was a large fowl. It could
not fly, and even at walking or run
ning It was slow and unwieldy. To
top these handicaps to Its self preser
.vatlon. tbe dodo was, unfortunately
for Itself, good to eat Its destruction
came quickly. Though the colonisers
might have remembered that you csn*t
eat your dodo and have It. and taken
steps to Insure Its continuance, hun
gry men are not far-sighted. More
over, the destruction of the dodo was
no doubt hastened by the dogs, cats,
awiua which accompanied man In
