Body of Negro Found Near City Monday body of a negro man, William rera, age about 35 years, was found near the point where the Atlan tic Coast Line and Southern railroads croaa near BarnWell late Monday af ternoon. An inquest was held over tbe body egrly Tuesday morning, and tbe examining physician stated that negro probably died late Saturday ttigfit or early Sunday morning, and body wa 3 so badly decomposed that it was difficult to make a thorough examination • of it, but he xns of the opinion that the negro had been given a lick on the left side of the bead, but could not say whether or not the blow was sufficient to have cased his death. Sheriff Dyches Dyrhes stated to a representative of The People-Sentinel that he was of the opinion that the negro did not meet 'with foul play, but probably died of natural causes. The Coroner’s jury had not rendered its verdict at the time of the closing of our forms Wed nesday morning, endeavoring to run dtown aome evidece a s to the cause of the negro’* death. Meyers had lived almost all of his ¥fe in and around Barnwell and bore a reputation of being a hard worker. He leaves a wife and several children. ♦ Social and Personal News from Williston . Williston, July 21.—In honor of tier bouse guests, Misses Lila Cureton and Amanda Wardlaw, of Liberty Hill, Mrs. W. C. Cunningham enter tained Tuesday afternoon with a lawn party to which were invited about 20 of the younger set of town. During Ithe afternoon Ice cream and cake were nerved on the lawn. A delightful social event of this week was the miscellaneous shower given Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mn|. Q. A. Kennedy, Jr., by the ladies’ auxiliary of the Williston Presbyterian church to a recent bride, Mrs. George Burnham Lott. Refresh ments consisting of sandwiches and iced tea were served by Mrs. Q. A. Kennedy, Jr., Mrs. J. W. Odiome and Mrs. W. R. Kennedy, after which the Ivide was informed that another course awaited her. ‘ She was seated At the dining table and the many at tractive gifts were served her on trays. About 25 gathered to enjoy the afternoon and extend to her a hearty welcome to Williston. Little Alice Fletcher was compli mented Friday afternoon, when she urms given a party by her grandmother, Mrs. M. C. Kitchings, in honor of her •sixth birthday. About a dozen of the little folk of town gathered to play games after which ice cream, cake ;anrt candy were served. In honor of Miss Maiy Johnson, of 'Oesetmt City, Fla., Miss Margaret Thompson entertained informally the younger set of town at her home on Tuesday evening. Among the out of town guests in addition to the guest of honor, were Misses Wardlaw and 'Cureton, of Liberty Hill, and Miss Blanche Martin, of Cheraw. Major James A. Willis, of San An tonio, Texas, is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Willis. Mrs. N. H. Sherard has returned to tier home in Forsythe, Ga., after visit ing her sister, Mrs. W. H. Manning.
