If the rule is ehanged Vi order to allow those who are op posed to A1 Smith for President to « vote for a candidate other than the regular Democratic nominee jt will be the entering wedge in the disruption of the party in South Carolina. The m-xt move will lie to amend the rule to apply to candidates for Congress nnd the Urrted States Senate (which really should be done now if the rule Is to he amerykri in reference to the Presidential nominee, as they are all federal offices), and finally the rule will cease to punctioiit as a lestraining influence, eveti in thfi^iection of State and county officers. The editor of The d*eople-Sentinel is npt a supporter of Smith, but rule or no rule* he intends to continue a Simon- pure Democrat, and (should the' New York governor be nominated at the Houston Convention, he intends to vote for him as the regular Democratic ruminee in the November election.
