Effort of Dusting
Crowned by Sutcess
Bamberg, Sept. 8.—The scientific
experiment carried oa today by use
of aircraft- against the anopheles
mosquitoes infesting the impounding
water of HoweU’s mill pond located
about 12 miles sooth of Baiqberf
was* declared m success in every re-
sp^dt The co-operating agencies in
this experiment were the sUnited
States Public Health service, the In-
terr.ational Health board, the United
iStates Mariqet corps, the United
States navy and the state board of

The efficiency test of dusting by
airplane is believed by expert malar-
iologists here today to have solved
the problem of reaching effectively
the isolated marsh and swamp lands
in fighting the malaria mosquito.
At 11:30 this morning the irtavy
Ford plane was loaded with parts
green and soapstone mixture. The
plane was piloted by Lieut. H. D.
Palmer of -the United States. Marine
corps, whose assistant pilot was Sgt.
M. Y. Shepard, U..S. M. C., who flew
low over the 500 acres of swamp and

stration, small dippers being used.

Tests were made following dusting
and fii two hours after the mixture
had been applied Dr. T. H. D. Grif
fith, epidemiologist of the United
States public health service, disking
exhaustive investigations found abso
lutely no live larvae.
Doctor Griffith stated that the teat
had'proven to be 100 per cent, suc
cessful. Dr. L. L. Williams, Jr., in
charge of malaria control for the
public health service in the United
States, penetrated the deep interior
of the swamp and found ractically no
live larvae. Doqtdr Williams pro
nounced the demonstration a success
in showing what may be accomplish
ed by uselof dusting planes in con
trolling mosquitoes in impounding
water areas which was the purpose
of the demonstration here today.
As further proof thttt Paris Green
mixed with soapstone dust penetrates
the densest foliage pieces of white
paper were placed at intervals in the
deep recesses of the swamp growth
where sunshine is never seen and after
the dusting the white papers had a
green film of the mixture on each
sheet. One pound of Paris green was
used to each acre.

ern will present some matters of
vital importance to our churches. A
hill attendance of all of the members
of the churches is urgently requested,
especially the officers of the churches.
The program will last about one
hour at each church and no collection
