The People-Sentinel has been requested by the officials of the 192 7 Savannah Water Carnival to select a young lady to represent BARNWELL COUNTY at the big spectacu lar water event to be staged in Savannah June 10th and I 1th. Who will be “Miss Barnwell’ is the question the people will de cide. The winner of the Contest will have rail road fare paid to and from Savannah, will be entertained while there without cost to her, and will receive many honors in keeping with her exalted position as “Queen of Barn well County.” Among the many things she will participate in will be the following: Mammoth parade of county representa tives with automobiles from her county to back her. Forty counties have been asked to send representatives, while many cities further removed from Savannah than the counties have be£n asked to send floats. The float for the young lady representative of Barnwell County will be furnished free by some progressive Savannah business house. It will be the work of special decorators. Assist in the coronation ceremonies of the Queen of the Carnival and then witness a spectacular and beautiful program on the big Daffin Park Lake. She will have a prized seat from which she can have a view of the big program. . She will be extended courtesies at the regatta where the South’s fastest motor boats will contest for supremacy. The coronation ball, staged amid thous ands of lanterns and decorations befitting such a gala occasion, will remain a life-long memory. She will hatfe the privilege of appointing two other young ladies, who will act as at tendants and ride with her on the Boat, but the two young ladies thus appointed will have to defray their own expenses. After the young lady is selected to rep resent Barnwell she will seek to have as many automobiles at Savannah as possible from this county. These automobiles will be given a place in the parade just back of the float on which “Miss Barnwell*’ will ride. The young lady representative having the most automobiles back of her float in the parade will be awarded a suitable prize. RULES OF CONTEST. The rules of the contest are simple: The qualifications for representative call for her being at least 16 years old and unmarried. She must agree to be present at all the events of the Water Carnival June 1 Otl) and 11 th. Any young lady in Barnwell County who meets these requirements is eligible. The selection will be made under the following plan: Votes will be given with every subscrip tion to The Barnwell People-Sentinel, as follows: One Year ($1.50) . . . ' Two Years ($3.00) . . Three Years ($4.50) . . Four Years ($6.00) . . Five Years ($7.50) . . . A nomination ballot appears on this page, which is good for 1,000 votes to start with. It costs you nothing to cast this bal lot, but only one nomination ballot may he cast for any one candidate. A special vote coupon also appears on this page, good for 25 votes.
