Long Branch Philophy. We have net yet selected our candi dates for office. We are like the Irish* man who drowned the sick Spapiard on board the ‘ ship be was tdld to throw a corps overboard and when the Spaniard insisted that he was not dead Pat excused himself by saying they Were such liars you could not believe them. Now if we could pick a set who would do away with the State Tex Commission and conaoKda'e other a little below that of a Kiser and take a little pinch off the atlaiiee of those allowed to still hold on we would be resdy to say amen. We know plenty of families of poor Bucrs who live a year on less thin some^of these fellow* get per month. We once back in the 70’n belonged to an organisation known as the Tax Unjon.wjh&h was intended as a genu- revolt and the Tax situation was as burdensome as it is now. It was a* easy, id get over as when it was avowed that there was yet ten year* of good Stealing in South .Caro lina. We don’t feel now that such is the case especially when we see 113 pieces of real estate advertised in one paper for taxes. . Let us make one guess before we close and it is this that half the tax money paid in to oqr Treasurer on last years assessment was borrowed and the poor Bueva and Nigger still owc«| it to some merchant, big farmer or banker. . 4 RIAH MAS. ■■■ ' • - Sycamore Socials. Record Lubricating Performance Made Many record lubricating perfor mances are the result of the road test conducted by tho Standard Oil Company (New Jersey) with the new “Standard” Motor Oil. ~ These -testa were mode with stock cars and trucks of representative manufac turers, including Fonl, Dodge, Mack, Buick, Hudson, White and other well known makes. All the. testa marked a striking advance in motor lubrica tion. With a Fdrd car a run of 608 miles dver a period of 28 days was made. The new “Standard” Motor OR showed a substantial decrease in bdth oil and gasoline consumption, while the oil mileage increased 12.8 percent and the gas mileage 12.3 per cent. In addition, the driver of the Ford reported improved pulling, snappier pick-up, elimination of the drag which had previously shown on the hills, •and the removal of carbon which had been in the motor when the oil was put in. A Mack test was- equally success ful. Daring a working period of 28 days, a big ACA Mack truck, using the new oil, had 19.5 per cent, in crease ip oil mileage and 20 per cent, in gas mileage. -The motor was cool er, had less friction, and gave more power. Besides, the pew oil cleaned out the existing carbon deposit and left none itself. When a Buick car Was examined before the tests, there were heavy carbon deposits on the cylinder heads and pistons. The new oil was then poured in the crank<ase and the car run 2,969 miles when it was again examined. Most of the carbon had disappeared. The slight amount remaining was easily wiped off with a cloth. Other Cara Do Well * Dodges,Hudsons, and Whites were among the other cars which fared splendidly in the testa. In a 1,080 mile road test run, a Dodge touring car, using the new oil had 40.9 per cent in oil mileage and 10 per cent, in gas mileage. There was also much smoother operation of the motor, more power and leas sluggishneaa on the hills. A Hudson went 992 miles in its teat. The tabulated results furnish ed A 27.1 per cent, in oil mileage ami 12.4 per cent in gas mileage. The driver of the car report decidedly smoother operation of the motor at all speeds,.more power and least drag on the hiRs. ’ \ ; Economy was the keynote of the results of the stiff 2,947 mile road test given a 6-ton White; Truck. With the new oil in the crank case, the White secured 19.5 per cent increase in oil mileage, a ud 13.8( per cent, in gas mileage. Further tests on Whit* motors resulted always'-in decided de crease in carbon deposit) less friction, cooler yptort, amoodilr running at all speeds and better all-’round lubri cation.
