L- * •v| 0 -1 k r r , * j % . • mm . . i • v ' -v’ . • ■ : ’ i , .i, ^ . -v \ To the Taxpayers and Current-users of the Town of Barnwell: Don t be misled by the extravagant and in some instances erroneous statements that are being circulated against the proposed sale of your light and power plant, but make an investigation yourself and then on a basis of facts decide whether or not it is good business judgment to sell us your plant. We desire particularly to call your attention to the following: 4 QUALITY OF CURRENT AND SERVICE • * " * ~ ^ J ' I ' * . . • • 1 > It has come to our attention that claims are being made that the quality of the electric current supplied and the service render ed by us is poor in the extreme. If this is true, why is an attempt being made to defeat the sale by assuring the voters that the Town of Barnwell can connect to our hydro-electric line at White Pond and secure current at an extremely low rate for re-sale to. the people of Barnwell ? As a matter of fact, the connection cannot be made there, as we own the line to a point between Aiken and Montmorenci. Such a connection could only give you the same current and service that we propose to render. PROFITS ON PLANT • • It is being claimed that profits of $67000 or $7,000 a year are being made by the plant at present, whereas we are reliably informed that the profits for the past 12 months are approximately $3,500 and for the past two years about $5,500. Previous to that time, under the administration of some of your best business men, the plant lost money steadily—as much as $300 a month, we are reliably informed. What assurance have you that there will not be a return to the same deplorable condition at some future date? COMPARATIVE PRICES ON CURRENT ' ^ , * * * ^ . N The above prifits have been made on a basis of 20 cents per k. w., less 10 per cent, if paid by the 5th of each month. We offer you a maximum rate of 12*4 cents per k. w., less 5 per cent. In other words, the users of electric current are being TAXED nearly cents per k. w. in order that the plant may show a profit and help pay off the indebtedness incurred in the past. In addition, it is necessary to levy upon the real and personal property of the citizens of Barnwell in order to provide the necessary funds to pay interest on your bonded indebtedness and create a sinking fund to retire the bonds. A sale to us means a saving on your cur rent and taxes, and in addition our property in Barnwell will be taxable and give you additional revenue from this source. DONT BE MISLED! * * .'■* • m Don’t be misled by the statements of those who worked just as hard to sell the plant for $20,000 and a 16 or 18 cent rate as they are working today to prevent its sale at $42,500 and a maximum rate of 12 , 4 cents per k. w. lnvestigate“~and we feel quite sure that as the result of a fair investigation you will VOTE FOR THE
