After several interesting rounds of
bridge, the Hostess, assisted by Mrs.
S. B. Ray, served delicious refresh
ments in two courses, consisting of
chicken salad, tomatoes on lettuce,
crackers, olives, toasted cheese sand
wiches and iced toa, followed by ap
ricot sherbet and chocolate cake.
Mr. J. C. Lewis, a well known mer
chant, of Johnston, was a visitor in
town Friday and enjoyed a number

TEACHERS’ EXAMINATION.
Notice is hereby given that the
regular Spring Teachers’ Examination
will be held at the Court House in
Barnwell on Friday, May 7th and Sat
urday, May 8th, 1926. Both days are
required to complete the examination.
Questions for Primary, Elemental y
and High School certificates will be
offered. v No third grade certificates
will be issued.

funeral of her grandmother, Mrs.
Ellen Baxley, which was conducted at
Calvary Sunday afiternoon, at 2:30
o’clock, by the Rev. S. M. Finch, o f
Elko. Interment was in Calvary
cemetery. Our deepest sympathy
goes out to Mrs. Taylor and all the
family in the'r loss,

Mrs.
Sarah Delk Dead.
Mrs. Sarah Delk, widow of the late
Meddie J. Delk, died at her home
near Olar Sunday afternoon; April
18th, at five o’clock, after an illness
of several weeks. Mrs. .Delk sur
vived her husband by seventeen years,
having attained the age of fifty-five
years:

Mrs. Delk was a faithful and con
sistent member ol the • Friendship
Baptist Church! Her body was laid
to re.st in the Double Pond cemetery
by the side of her husband. She left
surviving her the following: children:

federate Memorial day. May 10, the
exercises fto be held under the auspi
ces of the U. D. €< Chapters of that
city. Mr. Brown,, who is a forceful
and entertaining speaker, is said to
be especially well vWsed in the his
tory of the Confederacy. The me
morial exercises, it is understood, are
to be, held in Confederate Park’ in
