P P 1 if 4 t h— Whether or not prisoners like music, they love the sound of opening bars. It will be observed that most of those who knock Jack Dempsey do it on paper. There is one thing to be said in favor of drinking bootleg liquor. The habit only lasts a few years. What will it profit the meek to inherit the earth if the inheritance tax-continues in existence? The Navy wants a dirigible three times as large as the Shenandoah, which would almost exclipse some of the gas-bag* in Congress. It is reported that the esteemed members of the Legislature, many of whom doubtless d.riak branch and spring water when at home, feel that their health demands mineral water when in session at the Stafe House. Of course, dear old Publico pays the bill. However, judging from the accomplishments of that august body, we were laboring under the impres sion that water of any kind, as a beverage, was taboo. Nothing can be gained by one sec tion of a county knocking the other. The thing to do is to pull together, for’ we are all living under the same conditions and should be pulling in the same direction. Not only does this apnly to towns, but it is bad policy for one county to Ik* knocking the other. Let's all pull for the upbuilding of the grand old Pal metto State, according to our views the best State in the Union.-r-Bam- herg County Times. There is much good ftani for thought in the above editorial com ment and the sooner tho suggestion is adopted, the better for the people of South Carolina. We have too many petty jealousies for our own good. IN PREPARING FOR THE NEXT COAL STRIKE Qy A» B. The United States Government has issued a warning to farmers against over-production of farm products this year and this warning should be doubly significant to the Southern cotton farmer for the rrasort that, while for political purposes, the Re^ publican administration might Ik* dis posed to aid the Western farmers if government aid be possible, the “Solid South” need entertain no hopes along that line. If another large crop is produced this year we may expect a lower scale of prices, says the government, which also estimates that the cost of 4production will Ik* about the same -ar in 1925. We all know that cotton cannot be grown profitably at prevailing prices. Therefore, to force the price still lower by over production, .will be financial suicide. If necessary, the banks should curtail their loans in an effort to bring about a reduction; in acreage, for if we suffer a financial debacle this Fall, manyjof them will go down in the crash. luxury and its workers enjoy the hightest living standard in the world. In spite of the fact that America produces two-thirds of the cotton crop of the world and enjoys a prac tical monopoly, we find the staple selling today at .or under the cost of production. What right, then, have we for expecting men and women and their sons and daughters to continue to eke out a miserable existence in the country if they can find profit able work in trities?
