Ultra cAntis One day last week we passed a smail bunch of friends on the street and one Vf them called and asked us to come -back to where they were sitting. When We went :back they had one of their number to tell us about John A. Horton being a Bleasite, and they then began to berate Blease and his supporters to a "fare you well." They did this be cause they knew we were for Horton for congress. These friends were supporters of Manning and Aiken and they knew we were not supporting Blease, and the way they "rode" the ex-governor and his friends was a caution, and became obnoxious to a fair-minded person. One of these gentlemen, a man whom we actually loved and counted on as one of our best friends, was particularly outspoken, and when we said "Surely you wouldn't fall out with a man simp ly because he voted-for Blease," he be. came so excited that he actually danced a jig on the sidewalk and said he sure ly would. When we left that crowd we were nearer to being a Bleasite than at any other time in our life. We want to say right here that we believe the unlimited and unsurpassed abuse of Mr. Blease in the past by over zealous antis has caused him to be el ected to office before and it will do so again if it is kept up. We do not hesitate to say that we be lieve the ex-governor has been painted blacker than he is and has been abused beyond reason. It is unAmerican, and fair minded and independent people re sent such treatment accorded anybody. A certain class of antis are constant ly referring to Bleasites as a low class of people. Such a supposition is as un fortunate as it is untrue. We know good speople who are supporters o, Blease as well as good people who ar( supporters of Cooper and Manning. At the good people were never on the sam side of any question, and no man can b the best citizen until he can allow hi neighbor the right to his opinion unmo lested, the same as he claims for him self. We do'not know whether Mr. Horto is a Bleasite, Cooperite or Manningite but whichever he is we believe hei conscientious about it. We do know that he is in sympathy with the masse of the people and we believe him to b the best man for the place to which h aspires. This is why we are support ing him. Mr. Alken is a good man bu~ he has had the place long enough an somebody else ought to be given chance. If Horton is elected to congress ther will be a MAN on the job and the pe< ple will find out that the Third Cor gressional District of South Carolina on the m''ap.
