All people some day, soon or late, Will learn to love and not to hate; But not till then in any land Will civilization firmly stand. Isn't that a silly way - To act for any king? The kings are in the background, Issuing commands, The queens are in the parlor, Per etiquette's demands. The bankers in the counting house Are busy multiplying; The common people at the front Are doing all the dying. -Wm. Court ip American Flint. Little Edna Sentell On February 23 the Death Angel en tered our home and bore away odr dar ling Edna. Her body was laid to rest on the 25th at Praters Creek church, Rev. W. U. Seaborn conducting the funeral services. We loved her, yes, we loved her, but the angels loved her more, and she's gone to live with Jesus, happy there forevermore. We ask every christian who reads this to pray that when we reach our jour ney's end we may her blessings share and be one unbroken family in that home above. MR. AND MRS. M. S. SENTELL. In Memory of Emmett Holder While 'tis sad, words seem inadequate to express. The Saviour needs another star in his crown and little Emmeti had to go, as He often takes our brightest jewels to bind our hearts t< him. In his dying moments he smiled as if in submission to the will of Hin who said "suffer little children to com unto ..me, and -forbid- them- not, for o: such is the kingdom of heaven." Tht bereaved ones have the sympathy o many friends. To them we would say while you mourn, little Emmett is re ,joicn in the paradise of God. Be y consoled by the thought 'the Lord lov eth whom He chasteneth.' Perchance if little Emmett could speak out fror his blissful home, he would say " and mama, wee p not for me; befat ful and true and in life, and train ul little brothers and sisters in the fear o the Lord so when death comes each o you will be prepared to meet me ii heaven where there is no sorrow, pain nor death." Little Emmett, we misa thee in our saddened home below, bul the thought of heavenly meeting is the sweetest thought to know. ~A FRIEND. Well,_Isn't He? Spartanburg Journal. It is said that there is a fellowv in Pickens county who thinks that "Cy clone" Davis is one of the greatest men in congress. Some Old Items The following item appeared in The Pickens Sentinel of March 13, 1879: Easley, S. C., March 10 1879. Mr. Editor: I delivered on ~aturday last, to farmers, 390 sacks of guano (39 tons.) They will use more this year than ever. H. J. GIONILLIAT, Mr. Gignilliat was at that time depot agent at Easley Station. Another item tells of the death of Thomas W. Russell at Easley Station on March 9. The market report in the same papier quotes egg at 5 cents per dozen. Boosts Horton Belton Journal. Mr. John A..Horton is a formidabli candidate for congress in this district. We have numbers of citizens in the state as good as Horton, but none bet ter. He has risen from the comamon walks of life and is true to those who helped to make him what he is and if he is elected to represent this people in the halls of congress the masses will certainly have a friend who will ever be on the lookout for their best interests. Horton, the people's candidate for con gress, is meeting with the warmest kind of encouragement. His fearless and honest race two years ago made him hundreds of friends and while he did not win many have been heard to say recently that he is a winner in the approaching campaign.
