Buy a showy present for your daughter to give her teacher, and when she gets home ask her if any of the other children gaye a present as good as hers. In passing on Christmas pres ents care should be taken not to inadvertently return them to the donors. If your boy wants to give his teacher a Christmas present, tell him you pay taxes for the sup port of the public schools. and that's enough. Don't pay any attention to the individuality of the person to whom you are making a gift. Buy the thing that will be most showy and effective. Calculate your presents care fully, according to the wealth and social position of those who are to receive them. Give unto those whom you de sire to give unto you. It is more blessed to get than to give. A Profitable Resolution Everyone Should Make T HE passing of Christmas week and the last days of another year, while carry ing with them the regrets of all, have, like everything else, their brighter side. The death of one year means the birth of another and with that birth comes in spiration for new resolutions and for new endeavors. The New Year resolution has come to be looked upon as too much of--a joke. But they are still made, nevertheless. Few people there are who are not this week and who next week will not be con temnplating some change in their routine for the new year. Trhey may not stick to it, but they will be better off for every week they do keep the resolu tion intact. The Sentinel can be of great aid to you in preserv ing such a determination. I do not know how it shall be spent, but I do know how it ought to be I spent. I know it ought not to be spent in drinking and frolic ing around, butif It is a celebra tion of the birth of Christ it ought to be spent in a sober, thoughtful way, remembering, as far as possible, the poor and needy, and as far as in our pow er lies render such assistance as we can to relieve the sufferings of those around us. Remember that on the day we call Christ mas God gave this world His Son to die that we might live. Let us in givin- and receiving bear in inind this gift of God to men.
