this state during April, 1914.

were 2,203 conversions, and 1,
640 baptisms, eight churches
were organized, eight churches
built, and total receipts were
$41,693.
The next ses -Ion will be held
in Charleston.
Examination for Annapolis.
An examination will be held
in the court house at Anderson,
Saturday, January 24, 1914, to
select nominees to two vacancies
in the United States Military
Academy at Annapolis.
Applicants must reside in the
third congressional district,
be between the ages of 16 and
20 years and must be free from
serious physical defects.
Applicants will be examined
mentally on arithmetic, algebra,
geometry through plane geom
etry, geography, English gram
mar, United States history and
general history.
Barnwell Merchant Killed.
E, P. Best, a prominent mer
chant of Barnwell, was shot
and killed by an unknown per
son, within fifty yards of the
Barnwell court house, last Wed
nesday night. Forty negroes
have been arrested as suspects.
Scott Madison, one of the ne
groes arrested, was tried and
convicted for the killing. He
was tried Monday-less than a
week after the killing- and sen
tenced to die in the electric chair
between December 19 and 22.
