Parsons will open up an establishment of this kind on October 1st in the store building next to the Keowee Bank. The young people of Pilkens enjoyed a delightful dance at the beautiful summer home of Mr. and B. A. Hagood last Wednesday evening. T h e event was given in honor of the Misses Sloan, of Charleston. Among the out of town guests present were Misses Alma Cheatham Fannie Lathem, Margaret Sellers, Beryl Martin and Messrs Alex Robinson, Walter Robinson, Ben Hagood, J. M. Smith and Belt Folger, of Easley. John W, Hendricks has just completed a large, new store room in front of his handsome home, about two miles from Pickens on route 4, and has stocked it with a large line of newv goods, consisting of dry goods, notions, groceries, etc. Mr. Hendricks is building up a large trade and his business has outgrown his old quarters. At the close of the recent re vlyal meeting at Holly Springs church the members and1 conr gregation of that chprch pre sented Rev. B. 0.' Atkinson, who did, the preaching, with a purse of $28.35 as a token of ap precation of his efforts. This was a han~dsome purse and Is no doubt greatly appreciated by Mr. Atkinson both for its pec uniary value and the spirit which prompted the givers. All Day Singing. She was a daughter of Bill Bowen an old and respected- colord. citizen of near' Pickens. She was a member of the Pickens Chapel M. E. church and was 30' years of age. Willis Ambler, an old and re: spected colord man died at his home near Pickens last Satur day. He was the slave of tae late Maj. Ambler and was pro bably ihe oldest colored citizen of this county.
