Jones Co., of Greenville, have an ad in this paper which is worth reading. It may save you several dollars to read it. The "Happy Seven," (wrong ly named by some the "dirty seven") are having just about the best time of anybody these hot days. The weather nor anything else seems to upset the equilibrium or mar the pleasure of this happy bevy of young ladies whose smiling faces are an asset of the town worth having. George S. Mcravey and Homer Thompson, both of Lib erty won scholarships at the College of Charleston in the ex amination held here July 11 for Pickens county. Homer is a son of J. L. O. Thompson, for mer editor of The Sentinel, and is well known in Pickens. The S e n t i n e 1 congratulates the young men on their accom plishment and feels sure that they will do well at college. W. R. Lynch of near Wal halla in Oconee county, accom panied by his son, Claud, is visiting his father, Maj, G. M. Lynch, and other relatives in this county. This is his first visit back to his county in five years and he notes man y changes for the better in the old county and town of Pickens. Mr. Lynch says the crops of this county are for ahead of Oconee crops. His wife expocts to visit over here soon. In some respects'he has been unfortunate this year. Only three weeks ago a bolt lighting struck and killed two fine milk cows, and in the sprin two of his barns and their contents, including a cow aud a good horse, were burned. The town needs the money. In the Greenville city election Tuesday J. B. Marshall was elected mayor over C. S. Webb by a majority of six votes, 629 to 623. Mr. Webb will likely contest the election. For police commissioner W. T. Bull and E. E. Johnson were elected on the first ballot, and C. F. Grandy and J. C. McCall will run a second race for third commissioner. For aldermen, R. M. Dacus and Stephen King from Ward 1 will run again; R. I. McDavid is elected from Ward 2; W. T. Henderson, Ward 3; D. W. Ebaugh, Ward 4; J. B. Rasor, Ward 5; C. B. Martin, Ward 6.
