Hester on the 12th inst a daugh ter. Mr. L. C. Thornley made a business trip to Spartanburg Tuesday. Messrs M. C. Smith and J. F. ,Harris made a business trip to Greenville Tuesday. Miss Norma Griffin came up from Cateechee to spend Sun day with her parents. Miss Marie Folger who is teaching in Laurens County spent Sunday in town. Miss Nellie Grandy who is teaching the Mt. Carmel School spent Saturday at home. Married by Rev. E. L. Thom ason Mr. Daniel Bryant of An derson County to Miss Maggie Nelson of this county. Married February 8 by Judge J. B. Newberry at - his office, Miss Cleo Harper and Mr. George Kelley, all of this county. Mrs. Anra E. Ramseur has been appointed postmaster at at Central. The office got on the presidential list Jan. 1. Married on the 9th inst. at the residence of Judge J. B. New bery and by him Miss Gena Ariail and Mr. W. B. Hester. Cotton rolled in town the first two or three days of this week like early fall. Ten and ten and half cents make the farmers turn it loose. Mr. L. M. Ridon was in town Monday and reports the Oolenoy section in statu quo. While here he shoved his subscription up a year ahead. Mr. Ground Hog has proven to be right in his prograstica tions so far. It is to be hoped that this weather will prove to be good for the fruit and crops. Picken is soon to have paved side walks. Steps has been taken and before many moie moons we will be stepping on pavements sure enough. Let the good work go on. Edgar, the five-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Cochran died on the 9th inst. of pneu monia. His body was laid to rest in the cemetery at Bethle hem the day following. These parents have the tender spmpa thy of many friends. Supervisor Craig hias a force of hands at work digging arnd plowing down the hill this side the Mauldin bridge on Wolf Creek, south of town. The dirt is being hauled with dump scrapes to make a fill on each side of the bridge. This piece of work has been long needed. The residence occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Brissey on the farm of Mr. R. T. Hallumn near Liberty, was destroyed by fire on the 9th'inst. IThe occupants were away at the time and lost every thing. There was no insurance and the loss of the buildin~g and household furnishings amount ing to several hundred dollars. Hughes Bros. have begun the operation of their corn mill in town. Last Monday they ground thirty bushels of corn and those who patronized .themn were well pleased. They inform the public through The Sentinel this week about their new mill and ask for an opportunity to prove that they can make as good meal ' as' anyone. Give them a trial. News reached us Tuesday that Mr. S. P. Brazeale sustain ed a serious loss by fire Monday night. He lost his barn, a good mule. a cow 50 or t30 bushels of corn, fodder, shucks, meal and hulls and other things. T wo other cows were severely burn ed. It is not known how the fire originated, but the loss is very heavy. Mr. Brazeale lives about five miles northwest of here. Miss Lena Miller, the young est daughter of Hon. and Mrs. J. H. Miller, died at the home of her father on the 7th inst. The funeral services were conducted . W. C. Seaborn and the~ ent took place in the ry at Cedar Rock church oh she was a member the 4 lowing her death. Mr. s. Miller have the sincere ~Txf 7~~i' The residence of Hon. J. E. Boggs came near being distro ed by fired last Thursday morn ing. An alarm of fire was sound ed about four o'clock and it was soon learned that it was hi residence. The famil': had re tired and left a wood tire burn ing, and during the night one stick of wo->d rolled out and st the floor afire. Whin help reached theni it was making headway betn$ygen the oub1l floor and the ceiling.It was extin guished without any ;;reat damv age. Court will conven t-re onth 26th inst. with Judge Meminer presiding. This will be Ju id Meiinger's first appearance at Pickens in his judicial capacity. A heavy docket awaits him. There are several criminal cases, among them one on a charge of murder, one for assault with intent to murder and several of minor limportance. The civil docket is also heavy. There are twenty-five cases docketed for jury trial. It is quite likely that court will run far into the sc ond week at this time. The teachers of the schools in the county met in the School Auditorium here last Saturday and re-oganized their Teacher's Association by electing Supt. R. T. Hallum, prcsident and Prof. J. W. Balentine, secretary. In struction talks were made by these two. Prof. W. S. Morri son, of Clemson College, deliver ed a fine address. He is well known in this county and is one of the leading educators of the state. The occasion was profit able and entertaining and was thoroughly enjoyed by those present. A wink is -s good as a nod to a blind horse. When a repro sentative of The Sentinel a-i peared before the county board of commissioners at their last meeting to see if there was any prospects of getting some much needed work done on the court house grounds they began to talk of some man who had just been before them exhibiting views of beautiful lawns, walks, flowers, shrubbery. etc. And then they smiled, and looked at each other out of the north cor ner of their eves and got buisy at something else.
