At a meeting of the chamber of commerce at the Masonic hali Wed nesday night the cummittee appoint ed to investigate the matter of hold ing a Farmers' Chautauqua here some time during the summer made a favorable report which was adopted. It was recommended that the chau tauqua be held on July 22-26. Addresses were made hy Mr. R. E. ('rahel of the farm department of the Southern railway, W. W. Long of the extension department of the depart ment of agriculture and Kev. I. E. Wallace, setting forth wlrut a farm ers' chautauqua is and what it will mean to Seneca and this section. As Mr. Gr?bel expressed it, "A farmers' chautauqua is a three days inspirational school lor farmers." Tlie Speakers will he furnished by the Southern railway's farm develop ment department, the department oj agricultare at Washington, the State agricultural depart and clemson and Winthrop colleges. The morning program will consist of addresses by strong men on the various subjects that pertain to in dustrial and community development. The afternoon program will be of a more informal nature, consisting of demonstrations and cofnerences, etc. In the evenings, some form of en tertainment will be supplied. Below is the tentative program that was submitted: First Day. Soil improvement day. Live stock. Diversified crops. Fertilizer and machinery. Seront Day. Rural Improvement day. Kural credits. Murketing. Good roads. Agricultural education. The home. Third Day. Cooperation day. Farmer with farmer. Farmer with the business man. Farmer with the railroads. Cooperation day. A large crowd from Seneca attend ed the fair and field days exercises in Walhalla Friday. Many remained over for the oratoriaal contest last night and carno ack on the special train operated by the Blue Ridge railway. This train came almost be ing wrecked on '.this trip. Some ono had placed two cross ties on the tract just above the James station and had it not been that the train ' v/as run ning very slow there , would have been a serious wreck. Aa it was the train waa partially derailed, and delayed for some time..
