In there Is a single voter In tbi3 section who favors the good roads bond issue, we have failed thus far to? meet him and we try to make it a point to ask everyone we meet lt they are in favor ot'the bonds. In conversa tion with a prominent farmer of thc Roberts section in Anderson lajt Wednesday, we asked him if the peo ple in his section were .In favor of tho bonds, and be stated that to bis knowledge, there wa.i only one. mani in his section that was in favor of them. Another from the Whitefield section taid the same thing. W. L. Casey claims that the Five Fork section is opposed to them. Are these communities not among the most progressive ?In 'Anderson county and does Pot some of the county'? best citizens live in these sections. ' Have they not brains enough to know what is best for them? Do they have to sit Idly by and. let a few who, are under the control of corporation.? 'dictate to them what they must do. and if they do not be dubbed as non progressive, and of poor Judgment. Are the tax payers of Anderson county not already paying taxes to .support several offices .that I.? 'not worth a whoop to.them?. We can name several, and one in particular that ls of no more benefit to the peoplp. of the county than the chief of some African jungle tribe. Like the turtle, the taxpayer has already got too many leeches sucking their living from-them. It ls not a question as to Whether or not good roads would he a bsd .or a good thing fdr the''County, but a question as to whether or not the' county is ahle to try a three quarter million dollar experiment. Just a little comparison, please, aa to who hears the burden ot the taxes.* This ls true ?nd the parties are alive today to bear wit ness to the facts. A, is a man living on rented land. He made his return at $40.00, includjng . everything he Owned. The assessors raised 'his* as sessment to $30.00. lie pay a poll and road tax. The tax was lt mills, making his taxes $3.14 B, is a mah who owns 180 acres of 'land, four head of horses, two cows and three dwellings with necessary outbuild ings, beside house furnishings that could not be replaced for $1,000. Hts taxes, everything Included, was a little over $28.00. Now, where did the burden fail? It has been said that good roads would increase the value of land' from $10 to $20 per acre. It that be the case we think that a large' part of the money for the roed work should be raised by an . abutting property tai, thereby . making lt heaviest on those whp receive tho greatest benefit. lt does seem strange that with the bond issue there la. created enough offices to take a nie? sum from the total amount. The taxpayers should haye been given to understand in no un certain way that the boudv were to be used .'or road work and not go to pay L'.ncy ?alarles to road en gineers,., i extra commissioners, a CM rds and other grafters, aa wa* the-case ia Tennessee..
