Carmel Mie closing exercises of "Rev. Mr. Patterson's school. These occasions are always interesting, and on Friil:iv n luririi irnu'il nf fl?i ffinnilu ? o- ~ ~ v,?^ iHIU neighbors of the .school wore present. The proceedings wore opened with prayer by the Kov. Mr. Patterson. After this the exercises consisted of ex aminations ot' the various classes in arithmetic, history, spelling, grammar, &c. These were very interesting and evinced good progress on the part of the pupils and faithful work on the part of the teacher. Between the examinations there were rendered some excellent songs by the school. At one o'clock a recess was taken until three. Then the candidates went to a shaking hands and button-holing voter.^. Whilst the hospitable -ladies and gentlemen spread a most bountiful and delicious pic-nic dinner, to which every body was invited. We remember a similar occasion to this when Mr. Patterson taught at Lodimoiit two years ago. And we are prepared to say that the good folks in that neighborhood never fail to entertain visitors in a royal \ style. At three o'clock the proceedings 1 werc resumed and Mr. Patterson intro- ' .1 J " uuccu as me orator ot the occasion, \ Frank B. Gary,Esq., of Abbeville. Mr. Gary paid a graceful and deserved com*- * pliiuent to the teacher and pupils of the ( school, and delivered a most excellent f address oin the advantages of educa- ' tion. Mr. Gary spoke earnestly and well and was heartily applauded ami attentively listened to. This closed the proceedings of a very enjoyable occa- { eioii. , There \v$*&'also exercises at night, consisting oir>inusic, recitations, declamations, and'Vharades, which were enjeyed heartily by thd^audience. We heard mentioned a^.espo?i?Uy .y^d the 1 recitation, "" "Jeptha's Daughter^' by Miss Boykin. ' * i Mr. Patterson is doing a good work In this neighborhood, and \v<?k?pe they a may be able to retain hini^TOr many years to come. f /* The Bible Society. * A The Sixty third annual meeting o/^he ^ i Abbeville District Bible Society will {' f\ convene (d. v.) in the Methodist church p?> in Abbeville village at 11 A.
