Mr. I'.enot nominated .las. (J. Klugh, Ksq., and there being no other nominations, Mr. Klugh was elected by acclamation. The President ami Secretary were directed to inform the Governor - that Mr. Klugh was unanimously recommended for the appointment. This will he quite sufficient to secure Mr. Klugh's appointment, and the selection is a most admirable one. The appointee is a young man of business habits, fine ability, nud a high order of l<>gal talent, lie will fill the office with satisfaction to the Bar and the public, and will do himself great credit. A pleasant feature of Mr. Klugh's appointment is that though friends of Mr. ?<f. 1'. DeBrubl and Mr. .7. S. Perrm, had suggested their names for the office, and hail l>egun a canvass in their behalf, not a particle of bitter or unkind fcelling was engendered. and when it became apparent that Mr. Klugh had a majority of the Bar in his favor they prompt lv witli.J ~ l.:..* J-.: ... When the report was first known that an attempt would f bo made to rescue Ferguson, tlie Sheriff! called on the oflicer commanding the I Abbeville Hides for a guard for the jail, which was furnished every night for a week or more. This >ruard lias not receivfld any pay, ami didn't expect any. When the (bounty Commissioners hii- | thori/.od the Sheriff to hire k guard the inilitia was withdrawn, and has not been on guard since. The militia has not been the cause of tho expenditure of a single cent of public money.?Abbeville _V esscnyer. By Saturday it began to melt, and mingling with our red and yellow mud, made a dirty slush that was exceedingly disagreeable to pedestrians, and indeed to nil travellers.
