The court of general sessions met Monday morning at 10 o'clock, with all the officers in their places but the judge, who had missed a train, did not Arrivo until the arternoon. When Judge Aldrich arrived court convened at 3 p. in. and up to this evening (Wednesday) at 3 p. m. the following eases have been disposed .4: The State vs. John Henderson and Tom Vaughn, assault and battery; not guilty. The State va. B. H. Howard;- ob taining goods under false pretense; nol prossed. The State vs George Copeland as sault with intent to ravish; guilty; sentenced to twenty-seven years at hard labor in the penitentiary. The State vs. Dave Anderson: vio lation dispensary law; not uruilty. The State vs. Will Simpson, Bob McKinney, et. al, sharged with gam bling, was continued. The State vs. Drew Attaway and Drake McConnell; malicious mischiet; not guilty. The State vs. J. D. Moore; viola tion dispensary law; not guilty. The State vs. Babe Pitts, murder, is now occupying the time of the court and the jury is out on the case as we go to press. (Sentenced to 7 in the penitentiary. . - Several familiar faces are to be seen in the court room, notably, P. A. Porter, the court crier, and Jor dan Brzeale, bailif. Several lawyers from neighboring counties are present among whom are three familiar faces, that of Capt. A. Blythe, Hon M. 10 Ansel and A. C. Welborn, all from Greenville. Presentment of the Grand Jury. STATE OF SOUrH CAROLINA, County of Pickens. To His Honor, James Aldrich, Presiding Judge. We, the Grand Jury, of the County aforesaid beg leave to submit this our final presentment for this term of court. 1st. We have passed upon all bills handed to us by the Solicitor and have rendered such findinjgs as in our judgment the evidence warranted. 2nd. We have, through a committee of our body, visited the poor farm, jail and other public property, and we find that the paupers are receiving enough, to eat, but we find the farm in a dilapidated condition, also the buildings in a dilapidated condition, and we recommend that same be made so as to give it a more home. like appearance for those who have a home there. T.he jail we found in a fairly good condition. 3d. We have appointed a commit tee of our body to examine the books and offices of the various county of ficers, such committee to consist of the Foreman, J. S. Wilson, 3. C. Gar rett and 0. T... Martin. 6th. We are pleased to note such short terms of the criminal court in this county, and especially such few cases tried at this term of court, and desire to thank the Presiding Judge and other officials in court for cour tesik ztended to us. Everyone present had a good time. Mrs. 1-. A. Freeman has re turned fror a three weeks visit to Mrs T. A. Julian. Her health Is not is good at this writing. A singing and sociable at Mrs Millie Hendricks' on Saturday night was enjoyed by all present. All the farmers have started their plows aad have been putting in good time since the weather hal been permissable-ten cent cotton ,rop. While working on Mr. Jahue Portner's new house last week Mr. T. S. Williams was painfully hurt in the eye, a chisel accidentally [lying while being struck by Mr. Fortner. The affair was purely accidental. Mrs. David Hendricks is much improved and we hope will soon be well of her recent attack of pneumonia. Mr. Hendricks is al so laid up with the grip. We hope Lo see him out soon. The remains of the Rev. Thomas Looper were laid to rest at Peter's Oreek cemetery on the 24th ult, He had been in feeble health for about two years. The bereaved ones have the heartfelt sympathy~ of the entire comminunity . The de ceased was an exemplary Chris. tian whose daily walk and con versation is worthy. of imitation. Mr. Jas. Robinson visited Mr. W. A. Friddle last week. Jas. is a student of the Qolenoy Graded school. Mountain Bov.
