C., June 26.-The State Democraite ' Convention which met here to-day proved to be one of the most remarkable po litical assemblages that South Carolina has ever seen. It accom lished more work in five hours than simailar bodies generally per. form in three days. It was a mod el deliberative assemblage. Its personelle was admirable. Its smooth working was due largely to the tact of its presiding officer, Colonel Charles H. Simonton, of Charleston, who is, perhaps, the ablest parlimentarian in the State. Everything ran along smoothly, and not one incident happened to mar the harmony of the proceed ings. There was a notable ab sence of speeches, and the entire session was taken up with work. The program had been clearly mapped out by the executive com mittee, and it only remained for the Convention to ratify its re commendations. The following were elected delegates at large to the National Convention: Wade Hampton, of Columbia. Christopher Suber, of Newber ry Leroy .F. Youmans, of Colum bia. F. W. Dawson, of Charleston. All efforts to pass resolu tions pledging the delegates fail ed, andI they go untrammelled by instructions. An earnest effort to adopt the unit rule likewise failed, and the individual rnembers of the delegation can vote as they please. The question of nominating State officers was productive of a lively debate, but it was determined to make nominations and the entire State ticket was nominated by %e clamation. All the present incum bents were nominated unanimous ly amid thundering applause. THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTORS. The following were nominated as presidential electors: At large-Isaac X. Bryan, of Greenville, nnd John C. Naskell? of Columbia. First district.--B. H. Rutledge, of Charleston. Second district.-Johnson Ha good, of Barnwell. Third district.-W. C. Benet, of A bheville. Fourth district.--John E. Bacon, of Columbia. Fifth district.-W. L. T. Prince, of Chesterfield. Sixth district.-John L. Man ning. of Clarendon. Seventh .district.-James D. Blanding, of Sumter. A resolution was adopted au thorizing the executive committee to supply any vacancies that might arise. An immense amount of work was done in a brief time, and the result gives general satis faction. At seven the Convention took a recess till nine, to give the com mittee on -platform time to com plete their work. At that hour they were not readfy to report. Qovernor Thomnpson, Lieutenant Gov.S Opard, Secretary of State Lipscomb, General Youmans and Captain F. W. Dawson made glow ing speeches. The platform was finally adopted. It is substantial ly the same as the platform of 1880, with a few minor modifica tions. At alate hour the Conven tion adjourned. WASHED AwAY.-The bridges on the Enoree river at Woodruff's and Kilgore'., in Spartanburg county, were washed away on Wednesday of last week. The. wa ter in the Enoree. was higher than it has been at any time since the August freshet of 1p52. Reports from 'Laurens cotinty state that the bottoms 'on the -Enoree and Saluda rivers and on Rabun creek are overflowed and the corn drowned out, and it will be neces sary to replant in nearly every in stance.--Dai ly News.
