"Cupid's bow' uplifted, Arrow quickly flies, And her heart i% rited As she softly sighs. FRANK A. SUTrOw. A SHAv ATrEMPT AT SUICIDE. Rumor has it that a certin man in town imbibed too freely of the "ardent" last week, and while un der influence he became so despon dent that he thought he would commit suicide and leave this ap parently cold and cheerless world. He called for his wife to bring him his razor, asserting that he intend ed to cut his throat with it. She, obliging wife that she was brought it, but he changed his mind as to that mode of severing connection with the world, and concluded to depart hence by the drowning route. .He proceeded to the well and got inside the curb to hide j himself, thinking that some one of the family would rush up and try to rescue him. No such attempt at rescue was made, though. Un - witunately for him/,however, after getting inside th6 curb, he hap pened to take hold of a rotten piece of timber. which broke and lI in drop into the well. It was n potigbefore he was calling out kfil*ffor""some one to run there a.d let down a rope for him, so he t cyild get out of the d d well; j didn't want to be drowned-he as Just trying to fool them." The rope wasa let down to him and he wae (t~np s wet as a drown ed rat, witlhis hankering after suicide entirely vanished. Since then he has been as quiet as a mouse, and to mention suicide to lgm makes him feel so mean that he almost feels like going out and htanging himself, any how.- Cam-. dem-r Journal, June 5.
