ghe faseiry ffrssenger. J. R. HAGOOD, . Editor. [0ASLEY, S. C., FEBIU AR Y 1. I URRMAH FOR LIl FRItTY! The fobiowiig is a clipping from lihe "Pickens Sentinel,'' of 26th inst., regarding a subscription to our1 ne11w R-ailroad: We heard a prominent citizen of LAberty townslip say recently that that township ought to vote a sub Scription to the Carolina, Cunl)er land Gap and Chicago Railroad, because the township line runs within three-quarters ot a mile of 'asley Station, and Liberty township would be as much bene fitted by the building of the road as Easley township would.- The road, in fact, runs through Lilbcrty township three or four miles between Easley Station and Pick ens Court House, and near the line all the way from the Anderson line to Eaeley Ststion. What d you SaV Liberty ? Let us hear from you. Let us l:ear from you too Liber ty. Can't Ehasley, Liberty, and Pickins all unite in their effoi ts to carry out this gran(I scheme? When that mass meeting is called, let each township be well repre sented. Get all the citizens stirred up with regard to this matter, and let all go forward, in one grand body, in an honest effort to devel op the great material interests of our county. Read what Cen. Ha good la4 to say about the road, in his interview with a reporter, to be found on the 1st page. OUR PICKENS LATTER. PWiciN~s C. 1IL, Jani. 30, 1884. If Pickens continues to improve as rapidly all the year as it starts out, she will not know herself by the end of 1884. The teachers of the Pie(lmont College are doing more to huild up the townt than anything else. Tlhe cry of new comers i5s, "we heard of your cli mate and N our school andl we pitch our tenits amiiong you to uichool our childhren. " Let them continue to come. A warm hearted social community and capitad educational advantages are standlinig i nvita tions. Other studlents are yet to come andl last year's small crop is not telling much against the in terest mnanifestedl in education. This is right, let corn and cotton dry up, but the fertile mind should never be neglected. T1his town is one of the very best places in the State to build up a fine college and1 all indications point to one of the best educational centrei of the State. Our school is something for the town and whole county to justly boast of and point to with clie' fhipger' of pride. Its present success now' points to a still rnore prosperous future. C.
