And wide the gates of Paradise Open to those who pray,. And one who died in Christ, comes forth And Walks with us to-day. Yes, while that bell is stilling Our hearts with sorrow's breath, We offer glad thanksgiving Eor victory over death. And thus, this Burial-bell rings out, Through every cuigeful year, And drops its heavy notes like sobs Of mourners o'er the bier. Yet while the notes fall Earthward, We cannot only Weep, For throbbing through them breaks the hymn That changes death to sleep. And Alleltia ! tills the air To Christ, Who died and rose W1hile cross-sealed grave and Paradise With neavenlit radiance glows. C. L. M. New Laws for Old Ones. Below we give a synopsis of some of the laws passedl by tihe last Legislature, which wvilI be foumd of interest to our readlers: RENEWAL OF~ REGISTRATION CERTIF ICATES. "In case of the loss of any certill (ate, the elector losing~ the same shall be entitled to a renewal thereof by tihe supervisor of regibtraton upon)0) appli cation and proof of the loss thereof, in the following mannner, to-wit: The elector losing his certificate shall, at lea1st thirty dlays before the next general election, make ap~pl ication, un der oath, setting forth the fact of such loss and the circumstances attending such loss, as near as may be, anid sta ting that he has not sold, bartered or parted with the same for any pecun iary, valuable or other consideration, and has not wilfully destroyed the same; which application the supervi sor shall examine andl conSider, re quiring other .evidence under oath, if in his judgment necessary, to a (determn ination as to the loss thereof; and upon such examinatIon and conslideration thereof, if the supervisor'shall be satis fied that the certificate has been actu tienende ~l~iot, itking or stamnp lug the sante 4Renewal." '"That any registered elector. who may reside nearer a polling place in a preclnct or township of which he is a registered elector, and who desires to vote at such nearer polling place. shall, upon the surrender of his certificate of regist:ntion to the supervisor on or be fore the first Monday of July prece ding the next general election, be en titled to a new certificate permitting hin to vote at sich nearer ipolling place, the old certificate of regist ration to be destroy ed by thbe sipervisor, and such changes made by the Aupervisor in the registration books as will con form to the general provisions of t lie Act in regard to registration : Pro vided, tliat th supervisor of registra tion may require of ti1 applicant for such eh:mge an affidavit or s1 11 other evidence as Ie may deem necessary to a deternination of the iesidence of ti.e applicant.''
