Harris is visi ting relatives in Greenville county. She will be absent about two weeks. -Mrs. R. A. Bowen went down to Cateochee Monday for a short, stay with her daughter, Mrs. .J. F. Banister. -Mr. and Mrs. John L. Thornley and son returned Friday from a week's stay in the Whitewater section. -Mr. and Mrs. Butler Turner, of Linia, S. C., returned to their home Monday after a pleasant visit to Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Jeanes. -Mr. John Harris, of Greon - ville county, visited his mother Mrs. M. J. Harris last week; while here Mr. Harris attended the Greenville District Conferencu Easley. -Fresh California hams, sweet and juicy. Molasses cheap and good. Window shades, something now-ornamental paper. Best cheese always on hand at Mrs. Cureton's. -Quite an enjoyable picnic was given at the home air. W. T. O'Dell last Saturday afternoon. Quite a large crowd was present and a most delightful time is reported by all. Welcome to "The Easley Progress." We extend to "The Easley Prog ress" our most cordial welcome and take occasion to congratulate Editor Bradley and Business Man ager Lathomn upon the neat ap pearance and general newsy char acter of the initial issue. We com mend to the people of Easley and Pickens county this special effort on the part of some of the business citizens of that thriving town to sectre and maintain for their con munity an enterprise that speaks for the real progressiveness of which this new paper will be the exponent. Easley is a growing little city with a unity of purpose that looks to local upbuilding, and in this general movement towards the en during realities of industrial and social development a live progres-, sive newspaper will be felt and ap preciated. District Conferenice at Easley. Greenville District Conference of the Methodist church met in Eas iey Wednesday 23rd inst, Bishop Duncan piesiding, and continued 'through Sunday. The people at Easley opened theirfdoors to the visiting preachers and delegates and entertained all most hospit ably. Routine business was trans acted. Steps were taken looking to the establishment of a good school in Walhalla circuit to be un der the direction and support of the Greenville district. It was altogether an interesting session and Christian education seemed to be the inspiring subject and the one dominain in the Con ference. Able addressee were -de hiyered and good [crowds attended all the meetings . The next Dis trict Conference will be held at Williamston. LIBERTY LOCALS. Dog Days are on hand with showers which are greatly wel comed by many farmers. especially where they have not been having rain) of late. There are two sec tions of country just over in An derson county where crops have suffered seriously for rain espec ially corn which is about dried up. Watermelons are plentiful and fine and cheap as well. Miss Florence Templeton, of A b beville, S. C., who has been visiting relatives in town will return home to-day. The mountain party has returned and report a grand trip as the weather was clear and cool. This special party enjoyed themselves so well and it was the first trip for some of them that they have re quested that a list of their names be published in the Journal as thov are readers of it. Arwood, of Greenville, spent last week hero as the guest of Mirs. J. R. Falls. Prof. 1)omifick has been elected principal of the Central Graded s3chovol. The Rev. J. 10. Board closed a two weeks meeting at Mount Zion Mett,odist church last Tuesday night. There wore some accessions to the church and much good ac compished. The Baptist Association con venos with Central Baptist church on Thursday next. Preparations are being made to entertain the dolegates and a good meeting is ex dected. V. E. M. Lenhardt Dots. As we are all through our work :n the farms sometimes you will ind us sitting in some nice cool place telling jokes and talking over the list candidates with a nice mel >n close by. Our crops are as a eneral thing, fine, though we need t grod settled rain. Everyone fn shod their crop in fine condition. Our trustees have added very much to the appearance of our ichool by adding blinds to the win lows and the paint brush to the valls. We now boast of as good a school house as there is in the o0unty, Mr. R. F. Lenhardt planted some or 24 acres in cabbage.
