I There is groat rejoicing up in I Pickons. Some time in January I the people of that prosperous coun ty will leave ofy work for a day and swarm to the Court House to groot the first railroad train which will come snorting into towvn with bands of music and flying flags. It ) has long been the dream of the good men of Pickens to have a first-class railroad. The Southern Railway cuts through the county on the main lino from Washing ton to Atlanta and pass-s Easley, Liberty and Central. The Court Houso stands a. little further niortlh -vard, near the mountains. Sever :al years ago a survey was made for a branch lino to run from. 1ickens to Easloy. Tho distanco is nine miles. It must be said. hero in justice to the Pickensitow ihat they have one of the best. public roads between the two towns that, canl be found aniywhlore. -in the country. It is a little hilly, it is true, but.the pike has answer ed for a stage lino, railroad, canal,. uind all, and the business peoplo 4locided to Make it a good 3nM. And it is. Along this samie road ,tle railrond track was mappod out.. Charleston and Pickons will be ini closer touch withb thio opening of the branch roaid and Pickons will hereafter not fool so much isolated in the miounitajins. The board of dIiroctors is com p~osed ot somie of the be(st buinesisg muen in the State. Mr. .1. Lewis, of Pickons ; Mr. Johni Ferguson, of Greonville, and 3' others. It is mainly the .work of oI thes', gentlemen that fthoroadl is so. a near completion.-The News and Courier, Charleston, S. C. ,In view of the fact that Pickens is sooii to hav6 a railroad and that a closer business uniiion between our farmers and~ the businn~ss mon of that town is sure to result, it would seem) that a mail route from Suinny Dale to East Fork is a niocessity which should not be longer procrastiniated. With Pick ens as a railroad market for the fruit and1( vegetables of this section it will be absolutely necessary for her merchants to have a more dli rect means of commun ication with their paltron)is ini theO French Broad vily. A t present a letter from Suniny D~ale to East F'ork, a dis tance of tn rmilces, liae to go by star route to Easjoy or Groonville, thence by rail via Sp~artainbnJ'g andit JHonderson~ville to Birevard, and4 than by star route again to its destintionm, a distanco of near ly 200 miles with aln:ost a wooer conmumned in transit, There was once a mail service across the mountain., and just why it was discontinued we have never learned, but from whatever canso, it should be re-establshed. In those days Brevard had no raili { rad, and thovn waa mnch la in.' Cotton, like every other crop, need nourishment.
