J. N. King, of Ninety Six, a former representativo of Abbeville county, was im town Monday on railroad business. Air. King is building an iron bridge over Saluda river near Dacusville and will build the railroad from Pickens to Easloy in quick order if the railroad authorities accept his bid. -We are in receipt of a beauti ful calendar for 1897 by The Brad ley Fertilizer Company, through their representativo, Mr. T. ). Harris, of this place. He sells the famous "Sea Fowl" which has been used by our planters for many years. Mr. Harris has a small quentity on hand and those who wish to try this popular brand would do well to see him. -Mrs. Mandanah Williams, wife of Mr. Benajalh Williams. died at her residence in Easloy Township on the 80th uit., after a protracted illness. She was a daughter of the late Gon. Fred. Garvin and a consistent member of the Baptist church. She was buried at the Mullinix cometery, Dr. J, R, Riley conducting the burial services, She leavoa,- hus band and five children to cherish her memory. --On the 5th inst,, Mr. W. T, Berry Jr., and Charley Glasby, colored, were trying to cross the Saluda river at the Easley bridge while the water was up and they got into swift water on this side of the river and both of the mon and I the mule and buggy were carried down the river. The nogro and mule were drowned, but fortunate ly Mr. Berry caught to a tree and was saved. He stayed in the tree nine hours before help could reach him and after the expiration of the time above stated, some Qo secured a small boat and wenit to his rescue. The body of the negro was found about a hundred yards below the bridge and Coroner Jones held the inquest Tuesday. Notee. I have shipped a fine Jack to Easley. His services are offered to the people. C., on Truesdauy, the 18th dauy of May 1897, at 10 a. mn. The purpose of the meeting is to consider the question of retir ing all the outstandling bondis of the company and havimg the mort gage by which they are secured cancelled of record, and for the purpose of considering the ques tion of issuing new bonds of said company in a sum not exceeding $85,000,00 to be securedl by a first mortgage on all the property of said Qomipany.
