Bright, of Maynard, was in town last wook on official business. -The railroad mass meeting brought a largo crowd to town Saturday. -Mrs. J. 0. Brock is visiting relatives and frionds at Sen6ca this wook. -The commutation road tax books closed permanently for this yoar Monday. -Mrs. L. L. Inabinatt who has bon very ill for some timo is con valoscing rapidly. -When we get the railroad, Pickens will be the "garden spot" of South Carolina. -James F. Gurley, of Dallas Texas, is on a visit to friends in Pickens this week. -The Supervisors' of Registra tion were at their old post of duty three days this week. -The now bridge across Twelve Mile river noar 0. P. Field's was washed away Sunday. -The Pickens Sentinel is edited by the publishers now, Messrs. Richey and Thompson. -Mrs. Boo Lewis who has been confined to hor room for the past week is somewhat improved. -John Williams who lives near Easley, loft Tuosday for Indiana where he will spond some time. -Several Libertvites were in town llon(lay in the interest of the road from here to Liberty. -There waif a largo crowd of popl in town Moi.day attending the sales and Commissioners meet ing. -Ira Meares left last week for Danville, Va., where he has a nice position. We wish him much suc cess. --J. W. Cochran and daughter, Miss Rosa, of Fort Hill, visited relatives and friends in Pickens last week. -Th thunder storm Monday deposi ted a Cor~siderable amount of hail on our streets, somo of it wa~s of great size. --There wvill lbe preaching at the Methodist church at this place next sabbath morning by the pas tor, Rev. WV. M. Harden. -Mr. J. R. Harris, of Field, has treated himself to a bran new lphoton. lie says he delights in fine horses and photons. -Improvemen ts are still going on in Pickens. H. Mauldin to Miss Mary Jane Olenient, Rev. W. M. Haiden in his graceful and efficient manner performed the ceremony. -Mr. Henderson, the photogra pher, is still here, always ready and willing do anything in his line. All his work is guaranteed and has heretofore met the ap proval of all who patronized him. -There will be a public meet mng at Johnson school house, dis trict No. 10, April 10th at 8 p. mn., to consider the levy of a special Lax for school purposes and also a teacher will be selected for the summer term. -Greenville News: Constables Davis, Cooley and Cureton seized fifty gallons of corn whiskey on the 3d inst., from the promises of Mac. Saxton. This is the largest seizure that has been made by the newly appointed constables at one time. -On Fridamy evening the 2t. inst., Starling Cannon, colored, who lives oni D. A. Allgood's place while handling a 38 calibre pistol was accidently shot in the left hand, inflicting a serious wvoundl. Dr. G. WV. Earlo was callod and dressed the wound. -An election for an Intondanit andl four Wardens for the town of Pickens wvas held on Monday the 5th inst. The result was as fol lows : Intendant, C. E. '"vn are w'1 known in this county ani wnen in need of anything in their line you will save money by buying from them. -On Monday the 5th inst., Mr. John Freeman, wvho lives near~ Maynard, and Jack Byrd, a negro who lives with him went to Green ville on busmness and on their r~e turn to the Cox bridge the waeter was out all over the botioms. Trhere was about fifty people at the bridge trying to get across, bdi Mr. Freeman and the nogro con chided to cross and when they got to this end of the bridlge one of the hoices became frightened and Mr. Freemnan hit the horse with a whip, the horse then jump ed against the other one, throwing them off in the river. Mr. Free man jumped in the riser to save his team and Jack Byrd saw that Mr. Freeman was drowning and lie jumped in to dave him, but they got into the swift water andl the horses and two men were all drowned. At last accounts the negro was found, but the body of Mr. Freeman has not yet been found.
