Curoton, and his brother ,of Greenville, nepliews of Dr. J. D. Curoton,. of Pickens,wore visiting here last week. The hot sun and dry winds is doing the gardens up with a twist. Unless rains cone soon the early vegetables will not be in it. The Easloy Township Singing Association will moot at Mt. Car mel on the 5th Sunday in May at 10 a. im. S. M. Cox, Prosident. McElroath, of Easloy, was in Pickens on business last Monday and made us a most pleas ant call. Ho talks very much of putting up a nico brick business honse for one of our morchants. Died, on Friday night,May 15th in Anderson county, Mrs. Hugh Ellison. Her remains woro buried at George's Creek church on tho day following. She leaves a hus band and four children to mourn her death. For the benefit of the road over seers Supervisor Hendricks ha's had printed at the Journal office the road law in pamphlot form, They can be had by calling on Mr. Hendricks or Clerk of Board of Commissioners, John A. Robin -son. Mrs. Jane Fondley, andl Mrs. Ben Fondley and child met with the misfortune of having an old mule runaway withi a buggy in which they were in last Sunday. T1hey were thrown out and severely but not dangerously. hurt. The mule was twenty-two years old and had never before been known to be guilty of such a caper. The twenty-fifth annual meet ing of the State T1eachers' Associ .ation will b)o hold at Winthrop College, Rock Hill, S. C., June 20th, to July 3d, 1896. 'The mn y friends of Rev. W. B. Singleton bring his name be fore the public this~ week as a can didate for treasurer. Everybody knows "Uncle Buck" Singleton. Hei has been a minister mn the Bap tist church for over forty years, and few men enn say they have done more for God and humanity than ho. He is getting old now and his friends think it is time fso do something for hinig.. Hie is fully q ualified for the position and his friends ask that the voters give him their hearty support. The Old Folks Singing Associa tioni met with Shady Grove church last Sunday-and there was the largest .erowd present that wvas known in the history of the Asso ciation. Some fine music w~as had .and a general goodl time was en 'joyod by all. The Sacromont of ,the Lord's Supper was adminis ~tered. The next meeting will be held at Antioch on the fifth Sun day in May. Everybody bring books andl woll filled baskets and have an all day good time.
