For the bonefitof teachers ald others, a summor School will be conducted by the Professors of the South Carolina College, commenc ing Tuosday, July 17, 1894, an will continue until August Ist. There will be not less than twelva Lectures on each of the followin subjects: Elementary Physics, El onmotary Chemistry, Latin, Prin ciples of English Grammar, Phy siology and Ethics, Geology, Lee tures oi Law, &c. There is no ranson why our free public schools should not give to each child, with mental capacity to receive, a good com mou school education, except foi the parsimony of the parents 01 guardians. Tihe matter is entirol3 ir, the hands of' the people of each school district. If you think yout school is not doing enough to pro pare your children for the variout duties of life, to which they may be called, it is timod you were do ing something to botter their con dition. Will you do it? The costs is but little over half that of pri vate schools. Crosswell last year, levied are additional tax of two mills and1 they have already had thiree months of free school, and will in all pro bability, havo three months more. and loave somel to bogin next year with, and the beauty of it is, if you place an additional tax upon yourselves, the School Commis sioner can get none of it, but you get more work out of him, and he gets no extra pay. If you think your children ara born sufliciently wise to cope with the ignorant who have to attend sch ool that they may be wise enough to attend to their own af fairs; then it would be well for you to oppose increasing of the school fund. But even then, would not a good school increase the value of your property? WVhen a man wishes to invest his money in a home. does ho not inquire about scoh ools e, churches, mills, &c.? The children of this county have as much natural talent as those of ruy other, then why should it not be developed?
