MEMORIAL DAY INCREASES
LEGION FUND FOR GRAVES
Indianapolis, Ind., June 80.?Rett.
"ns from th* ?-.< npaign of American!
Legion Post> il'j?ughout the country
for contributions to the Overseas,
Graves Endowment Fund, with which
is proposed to decorate resting places
of American dead in Europe, are
steadily coming into the national
treasurer of the organization. The
largest amount received in a single
day was STf.OO on May .SI, hut this
was closely followed on the next day
with $5200 in the mails.
Many posts of the organization collected
the funds in a campaign which
culminated on May 30. so that-returns
may not he known until these report
I by legion state departments to national
headquarters.
The attainment of the figures set
seems more certain since reports from
various states indicate filling of Clio
quotas. Pennsylvania still leads in
contributions. Reports from other
states show that reaching the goal is
but a matter of days. Rodney S. Cohen.
legion national executive committeeman
from Georgia, has wired:
"Our quota Is pmctlcally collected, I
feel sure that I can guarantee it within
the next few days."
In New York, where the Advertising
Men's post voluntarily assumed a
quota which nearly approximated that
of the entire state, the commander
wired "HMiimrc t-lnit-n/l ...? "
. - ........ mu < t ?.?\i a ill/tle
since May 30, hut by combined efforts
of our membership, we will
reach the mark."
Contributions come from persons in
all walks of life. The French wife of a
former American officer told how
deeply she felt her countrymen's obligation
to the Americans who died
there. "1 gave many and much," she
wrote, "but now 1 have an American
born son, and I give something to this
fund that he may honor the sacrifice
of those dead."
Maude Radford Warren, well known
novelist, was among those to contribute
during the past week. writer
who was overseas during the war,
told of the appreciation she held for
"the splendid spirit of those who served
and died in France." Another contributor
was Assistant Secretary of
War Dwight F. Davis.
Contributions will be received until
warned against hunting, fishing
feeding stock, ranging, entering or
trespassing in any manner whatsoever,
upon the lands in Dog BlutT
township, containing eight hundred
(S00) acres, more or less, being the
place where Nancy A. Roberts resided
and bounded by lands of R. B.
Scarborough, J. C. Roberts, and
others.
Persons found violating this notice
will be prosecuted to the full extent
of the law.
