The crop was late and considerably less than in former vears. The 'Conway Coca Cola Co.. makers of bottled drinks of various kinds, are now running a series of fine 'dieplqy advertisements in The Horry Herald. Ak tfhe ipqpu'lation of this section Increases the number of tax delinquents also increases, and the work of trying to enforce the paymeilt of the t!L\PS ?... W/ ?*? V4VA UIIV4 uai uci The sheriff has a long string of tracts of land advertised in this issue, to he sold for taxes on the first Monday m July.. Some of this land will doubtless be cleared of tax claims by the day of the sale and thus eliminated from the sale on July 2nd, \vhen the sale -will take place. The delinquent tax business is one of the most ?orn-plicaited und difficult parts 'of 'the sheriffs work. It takes a great part of his time and that of a number of deputies every year. ? * Last year there was hut few auction sales of real estate. The country was in the worst of the deflation period following- the war, and as land hnd plumped from the peak of high prices down to .1.lower level than the prewar basis, the owners of land thought it was useless to try to put any of their holdings on the market. This is now being changed by coming 'back to the normal amount of auction sales and also private deals in town lots and country tracts. It means a coming back of normal business conditions in the opinion of many. ***** The Irish potato crop was dug and move<^ to the markets last week and the week before. The crop was late and the prices realized were not what they would have been had the crop been early and well matured in time to catch the period before the offering of larger crops raised in other sections of the country. The crop in this section did not amount to very much this year owing to the bad stand of plants obtained "nd the adverse seasons prevailing. The Myrtle Beach Farms Co., the largest planters of this crop in the county, produced about hnlf thr> neiml crop that they raise and market. * * * * County Auditor Jas. A. Calhoun is having- to notify a number of owners, of motor vehicles who have apparentlv failed to make returns of thft machines for taxation. The tax officials in Columbia are insisting that the motor vehicles must be placed on the tax books and pay their just proportion of the tax burden of the State. The lists of registered machines has been compared with the tax lists and in some cases as many as two hundred and f?fty machines have been found as apparently not returned. The notices being: sent out from the auditor's office shows the name of the owner, the make of the machine and t.b#? assessment placed on the machines by the State Tax Commission. An opportunity is afforded for the persons or companies addressed to appear and show cause why the assessment should not be made. In cases where machines have been sold and not now owned by the persons in whose names the records show they were registered it is in line for the persons addressed by these notices to appear in person or. by letter and make the necessary explanations. o Cure* Malaria, Chills and O'vIO ^vcr, Dengue or Bilious Fever. 5;3,23-20t.
