week on the new national highway
near the farm of M. F. Sarvis, in
Bucks township. There was too much
water in the soil to .allow the work
of ditching to go forward as it should.

was to deliver an address to the people
on educational questions of the

Civic League accepted the invitation

officers and teachers of the Hut Bible
class Tuesday evening. After the routine
business had been disposed of, a
social hour was enjoyed and refreshments

last week to seize the Docile tourinjr
car that was wrecked some time ogo
on the road between Little River and
Conway; and which was almost demolished
by the impact that was made
against a stump when something went
wrong: at a high rate of speed.

SOCIETIES DEBATE FOR MEDAL
The Inter-Society meeting under the
auspictes of the School Improvement
Association of the Burroughs High
School will take place on this evening;
also Friday evening. The contest
promises to be very interesting.
Representatives of the Timrod and
Lanier societies, the two literary societies
of the high school, have been
busy for the past month preparing for
these contests. On this evening, the
declamation contest, the essay contest,
the reading contest and oratorical
contest will take place. On Friday
evening, the debate will take place.
The School Improvement Association
is offering a loving cup, to be
held for one year by the society that
gaines the greatest number of points
at this meeting. The cup will be presented
on the last evening of the contest.
The public is cordially invited.

an organization that will assist them
to operate their farms on a profitable

agriculture in the eastern Carolinas.
