Reaves Found Dead and Burned Sunday Morning LONG TALE OF CRUELTY May Have Been Killed and Body Laid in Fire Where Found (Special to The Horry Herald.) Allsbrook, S. C., Dec. 18th.?Samuel W. Reaves was found dead last Slindnv mnvnintr luivnorl nlmnet I I j voiul recognition. W. E. Porter was notified last Sun-' day morning1 about J) o'clock by the son of the dead man that his father was burned to death. He went at once to the place, a short distance, then sent out the news over the vicinity. In a few hours he had several of the neighbors on the scene. He then called Magistrate B. L. Carter to hold an inquest as the man was found dead and alone in the kitchen, the son sleeping; in 1 lie other house, about seventy-five or so feet ^b^ve the kitchen. The position the body was found in, and the way he was burned caused much speculation, and called for an investigation. Soon after the magistrate arrived, a jury of inquest was selected, with W. E. Porter as foreman. The body was given a thorough examination. This (lid not reveal anything* to warrunt the arrest of anyone. The man was burned so badly that it was difficult to determine how or in what way he died. The body was found well up in the fire place, which was wide, and built of clay, with his face upward and nearly all of the hair, skin and ears burned otY the head. There was nothing' to show that the man had burned to death. He died and fell into the fire place, 01 was laid in the fire dead, was the belief of those who had charge of tW investigation. Since the death of the man. it is rumored that the body may be disinterred for further investigation. It seems from what can be learnec' that Grover Reaves, the son who i> single, and lived or should have livec with his father at the time of hi} death, was very cruel to his father and did not provide support tor nit parent and deprived him of sleeping in the house where all the beds were by staying .away from home manj nights until a late hour. The old man it is said, slept in the kitchen by th( nlace, with nothing but corn sacl sheets to sleep on, and to cover with He was found on the coldest nigh of last winter locked out of bo'l houses.
